  1. @gkmizuno Which is why Trump chose to surround himself with craven idiots who would not tell him "no". Ultimately, the blame must rest with the #TangerineTyrant because he made the electoral promises now being broken. (Not that he cares)

I figured that any project that made their own fediverse instance, I think those kind of folks "get the fediverse" and thus I wanna feature them.

  3. I could have grabbed the individual images and put together a GIF animation of the huge thundershowers headed towards , or I could just videorecord my computer screen. One takes seconds, the other takes 15 minutes. I chose the faster. Mt. Hood should be rocking any second now.

Unusual thunderstorms coming from the east, peeps.

  4. FAFO, right? If you do what Trump demands of you, you get to find out how costly that action was.

  5. C'mon, he doesn't really believe this bullshit. Trump's the same guy who went to Beijing to kiss the ring of Xi and nearly gave away Taiwan's security guarantees, is the same guy who wanted to increase trade with China, is the same guy who praised Xi for his strength.

FFS, Trump is a con man with no loyalties but to himself, and sycophants like Bessent embarrass themselves with idiotic rhetoric that bears no resemblance to the reality of their own actions.

  6. Sad. Hawaiian Airlines will no longer offer meals on most flights to the mainland. OTOH, I usually just pack my own bento, whether something bought or made at home.

  7. Both PCE and PCE core show increasing , where everything is being driven by the and PCE energy seeing the largest spike (18.3%) since post-COVID 2022 inflation surge.

  8. Microeconomic choices despite the macro effects of the war. You planned for the trip and booked everything ahead of what you believed would be the annual surge in bookings, so you figure might as well go anyway because you don't have trip insurance and prices are increasing so might as well go while you can.

What this ends up doing, however, is pushing up inflation and inevitably triggering multiple Fed rate hikes this year.

  9. I super love Atarashii Gakko's latest release, just two weeks ago, "Chanka Chanka".

It's a song celebrating all the festivals, but especially Obon where they're making references to the Tanko Bushi song and the dancing around the tower at Obon.

  10. “Chinese companies in the green sector scrapped roughly $2.8 billion in planned US manufacturing projects last year, while more than half of proposed investments were canceled, paused, or delayed.” -- excerpt from Semafor

    LOL That idiot Trump.

  11. Related to the Iran War effects, I've set up a new, economic instability tracker in #GoogleGemini, and one of the things I'm tracking is the (real) median price of petrol/gasoline per liter in 5 countries. Fascinating results, don't you think? US had the lowest price per liter and has risen the most.

  14. I'm sure by now, Trump has been warned, at least twice, that waiting is not a viable option. Lindsey is right about Trump's lack of action, but Graham's also a coward, incapable of taking on the full responsibility for advocating violence and the failure that stems from its usage. Look at how easily he forsake his post J6 beliefs re Trump's dangerousness. He will never admit being wrong, and that makes him equally dangerous as Trump.

  15. An outbreak of a rare Ebola strain; an exceptionally unlucky outbreak of Hantavirus on a cruise ship; the continued spread of Measles -- what bad timing to have an administration in place that gutted its experts, cut budgets, and is being led by incompetent sycophants.

All that FAFO is bearing fruit now, just as Mr. Smarty Pants has decided to test the global economy's resilience to an oil supply shock.

  17. Technology is amazing, isn't it? I took a photo of the TV screen while watching Patrick Boyle talk about "Why the Trump-Xi summit was always going to fail!", cropped it, then used Google Lens to read and copy the text to paste into the image's alt text.

Anyway, this is one of those economic paradoxes and/or a paradigm shifts on understanding of balance of trade and effects of trade deficits. Took a few minutes to think it through to get it.

  19. “Some begrudgingly stood by Trump because of their distaste for Democrats; others expressed faith the president had a plan to bring costs down. It was a testament to the durable, personal bond Trump has built with his base, allowing him to weather multiple crises across his two terms.”

One constant fear I have is to be so obstinately stuck in my dogma as to resolve my cognitive dissonance by doubling down for some seemingly noble cause.
