Why take the ball first in OT under current NFL rules?

I'm seeing a lot of folks question the #Ravens decision to take the ball first in OT. Doing so is optimal, primarily because the advantage of getting the ball 3rd in a first-score-wins situation is so big.
One other way to convince yourself this is true is by looking at the 2-point attempts by teams that score a TD in response to an opening TD. In the vast majority of cases, they will go for 2. They are forced to do that because they are about to give the ball away when the receiving team needs any score to win.
