@dianemagras Thank you for writing this! It means so much to me to hear that what I've written has "landed." Especially now, as I'm working on writing more from the heart. Here's another recent one I wrote...

The best seat in the house? On my lap (and on my blanket), under the desk, while I'm at my computer. Nice and cozy.

One of my absolute favorite performances of "Our Town" from Stephen Sondheim's brilliant Merrily We Roll along is this rather old (2010 now) BBC Proms performance where fantastic young actors fill this piece with the energy and hope that it's supposed to have. I love that they had the chance to do this.

A couple of days ago, I finished my second-ever pair of socks, which I tried on multiple times as I knit to be certain of the size. They fit beautifully while I was knitting and trying them on (or after I adjusted), though I've worn them now and they're a bit loose. I think I need to either try a size smaller next time, or maybe just wash and block them. They came out pretty well, though, and are super cozy.

So my iPhone updated last night to iOS 26.2 which I absolutely hate. What is with this bizzare Liquid Glass screen, and those massive icons? I detest AI and have blocked as much of that as I can, and done every workaround that I can with the appearance, but my phone is still hideous. I really don't want to use it anymore.
Apparently, you can still keep iOS 18 for a little longer, but it will try to push you into upgrading. Sigh. I wish I'd know, as I can't dial this one back.

My one planned meeting today, actually, was a really lovely one, in which my colleague and I talked about many lofty things, down-to-earth things, and agreed we should go on a walk together soon to talk about all things.

I can't stop thinking about Agnès Varda's 2000 documentary "Les glaneurs et la glaneuse," which begins with this image: Varda posing as one of the famous paintings she shares. The film delves into modern gleaning: people gleaning potatoes, a gourmet chef who gleans herbs, salvagers (urban gleaners) gathering food, artists collecting sculpture parts, and Varda herself: a gleaner of images. Utterly brilliant, filled with respectful curiosity.

Today I was invited to join my state's school library conference in April to sign books! It had been a long, intense day (not bad, though) with my day job, so having this recognition of myself as an author was very rewarding. I love school libraries (I volunteered once a week in my son's all through his elementary school years), so being with those wonderful book-lovers will be quite the dream!

I just got an email from a fan saying that Secret of the Shadow Beasts was "the best book I ever read."
So, so sweet. If your kid ever loved a book, know that it means a huge amount to authors to hear this.

This is such a good podcast from agent Jennifer Laughran and YA author Sara Zarr about the creative life, writing careers as a meditative labyrinth, the urge to get drafts out before they're ready, and more: https://literaticast.libsyn.com/55-into-the-labyrinth-with-sara-zarr

As a writer, I'm always fascinated by art's relationship with narrative in a book. I'm a huge fan of cover art and interior art in books for any age of reader, though of course #KidLit in particular. This article (which I found thanks to the artist who created my first two books' covers, Antonio Javier Caparo) goes into art, narrative, and books in gorgeous detail: https://www.muddycolors.com/2023/02/the-book-as-object/?fbclid=IwAR3XmfMmcem_DMffgEmFrg9SfzO0T2h8om-b_5psXwQfpjlipKVnczBJ71w

@TipsyDixit I know how you felt! I joined a different instance to start but the one I'm spending most of my time in now is so much more my style with very friendly people with whom I can chat about the things that mean a lot to me (such as #KidLit). Truly, keep looking if your instance isn't working out for you.
