I received an unusual request from a potential graduate student. Unusual in that a) they had read my latest article and provided a detailed response with potential future directions for follow up; and b) the student had almost no background in my discipline and hadn't even finished their undergrad.
It dawned on me this morning that the most likely explanation was that they'd fed my paper to an #LLM and asked it to write me a letter proposing the work 'the student' was excited to do.
That's really unnerving. #AI
