    King the Land
    (2023 Netflix, 16 1:20 eps)

On the surface, this is a fun, over-the-top, fairy-tale, trope-filled kDrama rom-com. The leads are wonderful, sweet & perfect (maybe too perfect), with great chemistry. The 2nd couples' relationships are also fun to watch. The product placement can be annoying because there is so much.

The scenery & sets are stunningly beautiful. There are a past trauma & family problems to overcome. I binged this one, not because of a compelling storyline, but because it was so cute.

Unfortunately, if you look a little deeper, I felt that the commentary on the big social problem was handled poorly. [See spoiler comment]

  2. It's a dream come true to be accepted in #HyorisHomestay(#효리네민박), and not just that, to meet #LeeHyoRi of #FinKL (#핑클)―1st Generation K-pop girl group―and the current celebrity employee, like in this episode, #ImYoonAh of #SNSD (#소녀시대 / #GirlsGeneration)―2nd Generation K-pop girl group.

    A little backgrounder:

For those not familiar, Hyori's Homestay (or Hyori's BnB) was a Korean TV variety show set in Hyori and Lee Sang Soon's home in Jeju Island, South Korea.

In its 1st Season, their celebrity employee was #IU (#아이유) (real name: #LeeJiEun (#이지은)). In its 2nd Season, it was Im Yoon Ah (Yoona).

Variety shows are very popular in South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. There are many variety show formats, and South Korea has the most currently known, surpassing #Japan and the #Philippines (if you ask the older generations, they'll tell you that we Filipinos are the ones who brought 'modern' music and variety shows in Korea and Japan).
