    Dr. Romantic 3
    (2023 - Disney+ 16 1:10 eps)

3 yrs later, back at the hospital with a new trauma center opening. Following the interesting pattern of a hospital-wide political problem throughout the series & medical situations in each eps with great acting. Some sides get a bit more space - Nurse Park's relationship & Dr. Jang learning a few things.

Minor complaints: parents of adults meddling, "hiding" in the middle of an emergency while others risk their lives looking for the person - completely out of character, voice-overs at the end enlightening us to all the valuable lessons was a bit much.

Good character growth & we see some good communication. Overall, it is an excellent medical drama with a bit of romance, & a lot of friendships & family relationships maturing - all while throwing interesting medical & ethical issues at us.

    Dr. Romantic Season 2
    (2020 - Viki, 16 avg 1:10 eps)

Han Seok Kyu, as Master Kim, delivers another wonderful season where he seems to be the only senior doctor in S.K. with morals. I enjoyed this season more than the 1st. Set in a rural hospital with many trauma cases, it makes an intense training ground for doctors.

We get some great returning characters & new doctors with problems for Master Kim to help with. Although I would have liked to see a bit more character dev in the new doctors, I hope maybe the 3rd season was planned so we can see more dev. then?

The medical cases are interesting & we see so much of the procedures - sometimes I have to look away. The romances were nice, but all felt like they were just starting & we'll have to see how they work out next season.

    Call It Love
    (2023 - Hulu/Disney+ 16 1:10 eps )

A woman falls in love with the son of her father's mistress. Having unavailable, undependable parents has affected all adult children. All the parents in this story are terrible in some way.

The cinematography is intimate, the sun never shines & the colors are washed out. The lighting, dialogue, music, echoing footsteps & poignant silence evoke melancholy. The pace is slow & lets us wallow in the anger, grief, & sadness the characters experience. Intriguing characters grow slowly. Great acting, especially by the leads, as they try to figure out love amidst familial betrayal & duty.

For me, the frustration with them allowing their lives to be ruined by their pasts dissipated as I saw them learning & growing. I ended up really enjoying this love story.

    Cheese in the Trap
    (2016 - Viki, 16 1:05 eps)

It was such an unusual journey. Maybe the 7.4 MDL rating is because it's not a comfortable show & the big messages aren't realized until the last eps. Many consider it a classic, probably because of the quality acting, & the unusual twist on a trope.

Not your typical rich chaebol with trauma falling for the poor girl: it is a rollercoaster of emotion. There are sweet friends, imperfect parents, a crazy sibling, a love triangle, & many side characters with difficult personality traits.

Both MLs get angry & act out, but in very different ways. One is much more socially acceptable, the other makes people very uncomfortable. The FL demonstrates that being with a person means accepting the good & the bad in yourself & them.

Now that I know the ending, my perception of the whole thing shifted.

    Sh**ting Stars
    (2022 - Viki, 16 1:00 eps)

Can't make a hashtag with *. The Korean title makes wordplay with "poop.” The title could also be "Shitting Stars.” Because Entertainment companies clean up after the actors’ messes.

An enemies-to-lovers story about an actor & his management/PR staff. It's a cute & sweet romcom with only a bit of trauma. The story is interesting, & the acting is good. The chemistry between the leads was weak (I didn't feel the chemistry with the FL in Weightlifting Fairy either). The transition to lovers seemed to move too fast for their history, which they hashed out with a 2 sentence conversation, but they were darling together.

The other couples are worth watching for their stories. It was a fun watch, with many familiar faces, & an interesting peek behind the scenes.
