This could be called the drama of horrible fathers. An action series, but unusual for good character development. There's law & then there's justice. The prosecutor, Lee Jun Hyuk, does a fabulous job of showing his frustration with the system, the corruption & his own feelings of guilt. Lee Min Ho is excellent as he realizes that what he's believed all his life may not be what it seems.
The open ending wasn't satisfying, but the rest of it was still worth watching. Very little romance. FL's character could have been written better, but she's a side story. Enough twists make it exciting.

(2013 - 20 1:00 eps) REWATCHA classic I 1st watched in early 2023. Knowledge of language & culture made it even better. The episodes flew by as the spoiled illegitimate 2nd son fell for the poor girl & had to fight to love her.
Phenomenal casting of 3 proven leads early in their careers & the supporting actors (see hashtags) who have all had stellar careers. A screenwriter with several other highly-rated dramas (The Glory, The King: EM, Goblin...) The 3 leads & the show won many awards.
It has a lot of wrist grabbing which was common at the time. But the depth that these young actors portrayed is astounding. Lots of character development & we come to understand their pain & the reasons for their actions. Excellent!

(2010 - Viki, 16 1:05 eps)Lee Min Ho & Son Ye Jin are 2 of my faves. I found this while looking for something lighter - nothing outstanding in this drama, except maybe Lee Min Ho's fashion at the time.
He's an architect who wants to know more about a house & its designer, but the designer's daughter lives there. She happens to need a roommate, so he ends up accidentally "gay" & moves in. There is some bad humor 2010 SK-style around that, but it unexpectedly ends up being a touching storyline.
The opposites attract chemistry is great as he falls for her. She knows she's too trusting & could be hurt, but chooses to trust anyway, which makes her endearing. The 1st 10-12 episodes are very bingeable, but it unfortunately doesn't stick the landing well. It was still a fun watch with good acting, funny, touching, & tear-jerking moments.

Boys Over Flowers
(2009 Viki, 25 1:05 eps)The popularity of "Boys Over Flowers" helped ignite the K-Wave & it became a cultural phenomenon. Looking back at it, even with all the tropes, the terrible portrayal of women, lack of character development, plot holes, & noble idiots, I *loved* it. I binged the last part of the series.
A spunky, poor girl ends up involved with 4 rich & handsome guys. Due to this, her life becomes awful. It has some great characters to hate & love. The biggest problem with the story is that you don't find out the reasons the boys act the way they do until well into the series.
In the end, some side characters just disappear & there was too much forgiveness for the villainous characters. Yet, I will most likely rewatch this at some point because it was so fun!

The King: Eternal MonarchI wanted to love this one a lot. Lee Min Ho as a King with a horse in a science fiction/fantasy world - what could be better?
I liked it and may watch parts of it again. It’s hard to discuss without spoilers. The story had a lot of potential, but fell short for me. I did love Woo Do Hwan - he was excellent at playing 2 really different characters and he makes it worth watching.
Like Heavenly Idol, I think trying to develop & explain another world in just 16 episodes means you leave out a lot of important character development.
I’d say give it a watch, but don’t expect it to the be the epic it looks to be.
