6·1 지방선거로 국민의힘이 서울시의회 다수당이 되자 입장이 달라졌다. 시의회 사무처는 6월30일로 부지 사용 계약이 만료된 점 등을 들어 4·16세월호참사가족협의회가 요청한 세월호 기억공간 사용기간 연장 신청을 불허했다.
