@AnnaAnthro seated here with you.
The only reason I haven’t started watching today’s episodes of ***Against the Current*** yet is that I am using them as an incentive to get through a taxing task. Soon though. Soon.
This show, at episode 29 as of yesterday, still has 18 episodes to go and the ***wife chasing crematorium / journey to the crematorium (追妻火葬场)*** arc is just getting going!
The male lead still holds the firm belief that he can win his wife’s affection without actually letting her have agency — even though he fell for her intelligence, tactical brilliance and unwillingness to be be put upon. No action is too shameless for him it seems.
One of our near adult kids actually admonished me for cackling too loudly, and shut the windows, yesterday while I was watching episodes 28 and 29.
***追妻火葬场*** is a concept and trope in cDrama that is *not* well established and fleshed out by comparison to Western romance screen media.
There is nonetheless a sub genre of very long British romance novels that does this going all the way back to Fannny Burney’s 18th century novel ***Cecilia***. One rarely sees them adapted to screen though, and I can’t think of any US literature or productions that double down on this trope other than the (very problematic) *Gone with the Wind*.
Anyone else here dreading that the rollout will drop to one episode per day next week?
