Winter Sweet (Waxflower） near my house.
It has a clear, sweet fragrance.We love it for its small, pretty winter flowers.

Toward January's end guests are served 'rōbai' (蝋梅), named after the fragrant 'yellow wax plum' which blooms at this time of year. As the name suggests, the beehive-yellow blossoms look as if they have been carefully crafted from wax.
Known as wintersweet in English, rōbai were introduced to Japan from China in the 17thC.
They are not related to the Japanese plum. -
Rōbai can be written with the characters '臘梅' (12th month) or '蠟梅' (wax plum).
'臘' or 'Rō' was the name given to the 12th month in the lunar calendar, which now corresponds to February (when wintersweet is in bloom).
