「滿紙荒唐言,一把辛酸淚!都云作者癡,誰解其中味? Full of wild, senseless words is this book; / One handful of bitter tears between its covers! / Men all call the author a madman, / But who on earth can really grasp his meaning?」
「假作眞時眞亦假,無爲有處有還無。 Truth becomes fiction when fiction’s true; Real becomes not-real where the unreal’s real.」
紅樓夢 A Dream of Red Mansions: A masterpiece of classical Chinese literature by 曹雪芹 Cao Xueqin, this novel chronicles the rise and fall of a noble family through a tragic love story, reflecting the vanity of worldly glory.

For all of Twitter's drama, I am amazed that were able to use it as a starting point for #ReadingTheStone, my experiment in collectively reading the 18th century Chinese novel #StoryOfTheStone (#Hongloumeng #紅樓夢).
Last April 1st was our first live discussion, and tweet comments flew fast and furious as we chatted. And though we switched to Zoom, our stalwart group did reach Chapter 120 today. I am so grateful for everyone who has taken part along the way.

Dear Friends,
There will only be two #ReadingTheStone chats left this year: tomorrow 12/3, and evening 12/20 for a grand wrap-up.
Tomorrow we read up to Chapter 80, i.e. if you're a textual purist, we reach the canonical end of the novel.

After missing a few weeks, I was able to check in with #ReadingTheStone this morning. Ah, I really missed it. I'm well behind on the reading, but it's so lovely to listen to smart, thoughtful, and funny people talk about such wonderful things.
