Tatsumi Daimyōjin (辰巳大明神), festooned with sakura.
A mischievous tanuki once delighted in hiding beneath the nearby bridge to scare unsuspecting maiko and geisha as they passed by. He was later enshrined here (to calm his still restless spirit).

When walking through the neighbourhood that tumbles down the hillside from Kiyomizu-dera to Gion, you may notice some odd-shaped talismans hung outside homes and businesses.
Kukurizaru (くくり猿) are small balls of cloth, most commonly red in colour.
