One does not simply riichi when someone has two pons of dragons :neofox_blep:

We're having a club tournament today, and I'm not doing great
In the last game I went for a yakuless tenpai and missed a 2000 points chankan, because I forgot that was a thing :neofox_googly_shocked:
(It went to a draw, and I was the only one tenpai, so I ended up getting more points, but still)

Back when I started running the mahjong meetup in 2023 there were several times where only one or two other persons would come. Now we often have 5 tables running with 20 people :neofox_happy:
-
I needed a quick win to secure the first place, and that's exactly what I got: chiitoi nomi on North's third discard :neofox_blep:
-
In the third game today I was in a comfortable lead in the last round, but then the dealer ronned a haneman and got really close to me :neofox_glare:
I was planning to get a quick cheap hand, but then the dealer got a kokushi :neofox_shocked:
And then finally I got a quick cheap hand (open ittsuu nomi) finishing second, packed my set and went home :neofox_sad:
-
Fun moment at the mahjong meetup today: 3 players in riichi, except me and another player had the exactly same shanpon (AABB) wait, so there was no way either of us could have won :neofox_googly_shocked:
-
Just learnt about another strange Tenhou rule:
サドンデスルールは、30000点(供託未収)以上になった時点で終了、ただし親の連荘がある場合は連荘を優先する
That is, sudden death ends once a player has 30k or more, unless there was a double ron (or an exhaustive draw) with the dealer being one of the winners and the dealer not being in first place afterwards, in which case the dealer repeat takes priority :neofox_what:
(I would have finished first with 31k, but instead we continued playing and I ended last :neofox_glare: )

Let a haneman ron that wouldn't get me out of last place through twice, kept drawing Norths until I reached a baiman tsumo :neofox_cool_fingerguns:

Daisuushii :neofox_aww:

I got a sankantsu in sanma :neofox_googly: (and I was later tenpai for sanshoku doukou, but the yasume was enough to win the hanchan)

daburi- ippatsu :neofox_owo:

Taught four new people the basics of mahjong today :neofox_happy:

Got a ryanpeikou today :neofox_aww:

It's reassuring to see that sometimes even the pros miscount the fu :neofox_laptop:

Okay, so you got a kokushi?
That don't impress me much :neofox_sip:

An interesting WWYD from yesterday's meetup
(from the "Tibet" teaching method, hence only 11 tiles)

Today we got absolutely destroyed by the ghost player. They got a riichi ippatsu tsumo pinfu dora 4 for 16k, and even in ōrasu they tsumoed a mangan :neofox_cry_loud:

Love a good houtei nomi :neofox_blep:

Day 1 of the tournament in Hamburg. I drew the starting number 32 (out of 32), but I'm not going to repeat the thing I said at the tournament in Valencia, because it didn't quite work out :neofox_blep:
-
Exhausted after the mahjong meetup, and I agreed to meet to play on Monday as well :neofox_googly_shocked:
-
Petition to call two consecutive tiles/cards in the same suit a "dash".
Why "dash"?
Because it's a short run :neofox_blep:
-
Going back home from a 5-hanchan mahjong sesh with friends, only to come back tomorrow for another one :neofox_bongo:
-
It was nice to be back at the mahjong meetup :neofox_mug:
We even had one person from #38C3 (if you're here - hi!), so apparently it's not as cool as mahjong :neofox_blep:
-
No matter what happens today, the best prize for me will be catching up on sleep once the tournament is over :neofox_up_sleep:
-
43 tables :neofox_owo:

I went downstairs to register for the championship, and got called "el último", because I happened to get the last starting number (172). That's clearly a good sign, because los últimos serán los primeros, por supuesto :neofox_cool_fingerguns:
