Talking with @x42 about very old projects in #Ardour #DAW and importing them into today's versions, I remember some deeds I did in music some many years ago, like this: https://www.jamendo.com/track/365947/muhbarg-atonal

One of my first pieces that doesn't use any specific scale or usual tonality. From summer 2009. From the second album I ever had made back then.

Trying to figure out how I did this. For sure there was this sample of a metal salad bowl involved, played via an #Yamaha A4000 #sampler with its internal FX. Also an electric guitar of sorts… and I'm pretty sure: #ZynAddSubFX.

I think I left that salad bowl to the community in my last shared house when I moved out.

It is likely that I had used an #Oberheim OB12 #synthesizer on this, too.

For some reason I can't remember the name of the track is an anagram of “Hamburg Altona”, a famous train station.

Today I learned that #ArchLinux-supplied #LMMS builds are lacking #ZynAddSubFX instrument plug-in. That completely breaks 100% of my old projects, which use Zyn for... everything.
I asked the LMMS people and they told me to download an AppImage instead of using the repository-supplied builds.
Software packaging, am I right?

Battle of the open source synths on Linux: #Vitalium, #SurgeXT, #Synthv1, #Dexed, #ZynAddSubFX. There's also #Helm, but it's just a precursor of Vitalium (by the same developer). There are a couple more, but these are the most common or capable ones.

I wish there was some more development of Vitalium. The creator of #Vital dropped the v1 as GPL, and then he closed sourced it. The community didn't really do much with it.

@noisevember As with all of my Noisevember noises, this is a synth patch, not an ambient sound recording. Roughly speaking, higher note numbers give you smaller fireworks, and higher velocities make them closer to you. I'd love to hear people making beats with this, preferably through enormous speakers.
