Another hidden message in an old 8bit game. This is really amazing.

"Time Out" for the #MSX system. Probably another lazy port from the #ZX #Spectrum.

The #BASIC loader that loads and launches the game has this secret message inside:

"Este programa ha sido realizado en tan solo 20 horas, el dia 17/10/88, en Barcelona. Fdo: El programador ..." that translates to English as:
"This program has been written in only 20 hours on 17/10/88. Signed: the coder".

Back on the spectrum. (Ha! Not that I have a choice). Got recap kits, powermod kits, and a diagnostic cartridge from #retroleum. One done, 4 to go. This one was a bit of a fight. Fighting my desoldering iron. Fighting myself making stupid mistakes. But I got there in the end.

Got myself some fresh membranes. Now the challenge of replacing them without trashing the covers. Bit of change of trying to figuring out the haunted spectrum+ (which has now eaten 3 4116's whilst testing)

Still on the spectrum. Socketed loads of ics. Tested them. It's still flakey. Swapped TR4, TR5 with a different speccy. Still a massive 1.6v ripple on the 12v. Replaced most of the caps. Only wants to run the diagram. Refuses to run any other rom. I think this one is cursed.

@haitchfive @jonn_blanchard looking again at the TR4 and TR5, removed them and they still measure as being transistors. Scoped the voltage on the 4116s to look how it powerrail is. Found 2v ripple on the 12v, that can't be good

Bit forward, bit backward. Lower ram seems to test ok now. But now I get random nmi or random key presses without keyboard connected. ULA works fine in a different spectrum. I might end up socketing everything. But that feels a bit of a defeat. It also seems very picky about the eproms I use.

It doesn't make sense to me, why would it fail all 8 bits. Unless both ic4 and ic5 (both ls157) are bad. Or the diagrom isn't working properly (which i really doubt). (issue 4b board)

@mbessey Eureka (an early text adventure) used a VM to allow parallel development for the #C64 and the #ZX Spectrum, but this wasn't used for any other game.

Sid Meier also developed his own VM/language called SidTran, which was used to implement his early flight simulators in the 8-bit era. Indeed this made them easier to port, but this also meant that they wouldn't be able to take full advantage of platform specific hardware features.
