Also, more good news before I play video games: Zorin Dev Team is working on their beta for Zorin OS 18, which means it will finally be based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and supported until April 2029.

Given that their OS works on a wide range of computers, I will be trying it after the stable version of Zorin OS 18 comes out. I will even shell out money for the Pro version with Windows App Support and additional customization layouts (could do that all on my own too, but this saves time for other things).

Zorin OS has always fascinated me, but the recent Zorin OS 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, which is long in the tooth...

The refresh the Zorin Devs are working on is very welcome in my opinion!

Took me 5 hours to transform my parents-in-law's Geo laptop from #Windows10 to #zorin_os . Most of the time was actually spent on backing up 9 years of old documents and photos from the old system.
The install, setting up Thunderbird, and making it look like their old Windows desktop took just a couple of hours. Very smooth and so far no complaints.
#zorin is definitely the best option for moving people with machines not compatible with #windows11.

Here we go.
Background. We try to resist as much as possible getting rid of electronics if they still work. E.g. we have an old dual-core Acer laptop that we installed #zorin_os and we use it for streaming.
So this year's project is changing the #AndroidOS in a Breeze tablet with Linux; with #ubuntutouch. It will surely be painful as tablets are finicky, but it will also be a learning experience. Apart from rescuing a good tablet, it will be a stepping stone for the same on our phones.

Es muss(!) folgendes bieten:
- physische Tastatur
- Mausbedienung
- 11 bis 12 Zoll Bildschirm (nicht größer!)

Ein Android-Tablet scheint mir nicht das richtige zu sein.

Sie kennt Zorin OS, das Gerät sollte also idealerweise auch damit laufen.

Abnehmbare Tastatur od. Tablet Mode wären nice to have.
