  1. Many major disease outbreaks in humans—e.g. HIV, Ebola, COVID—have been linked to traded wildlife, but the massive national & international trade in domesticated animals is often also a source of zoonotic pathogens: doi.org/10.1038/d415... #Trade #Livestock #Animals #Wildlife #Zoonoses #PublicHealth

    Almost half of traded wildlife...

  2. Slips, trips and fall risks from ubiquitous dogs

In dog-friendly Australia it seems the non-native canine is the most dominant species. They are allowed to roam the (dog-free) beaches, the national parks and (pet-friendly) workplaces, flats, cafes, restaurants etc. If not straying, then they are on long or flexible, extendable leashes stretching across hallways and footpaths.

This trip-and-fall risk is human-unfriendly. The health, safety, and well-being of the bipedal companions is not considered. Pet dogs pose hygiene issues, potential zoonoses and allergy risks. The mental well-being of bite victims and phobia affected can trigger distress.

Humans and their dogs drove our evolutionary cousins Neanderthals to extinction
"Early dogs, bred from wolves, played a critical role in the modern human’s takeover of Europe 40,000 years ago when we vanquished the Neanderthal locals. The Neanderthals, who had lived there for more than 200,000 years. However, within a few thousand years of our arrival, they disappeared...Humans and hunting dogs were, and still are, a deadly combination." >>
