In het kader van 4 mei #ZoneOfInterest teruggekeken op NPO. Indrukwekkend, niet zozeer om al het leed dat wordt getoond (spoiler: dat blijft buiten beeld) maar vooral om wat níet wordt getoond. De scènes zijn kalm, statisch - iets totaal anders dan bijvoorbeeld Der Untergang.

A friend of mine suggested that #zoneofinterest was a film about the uncanny valley. I laughed at him at first, but on second thoughts, yes, it does make sense.
And even more so if you put it in perspective with another #jonathanglazer film, #undertheskin.
The two films can be seen as a diptych on alienness, on the production of humanity as alien to itself.
Like the alien in Under the Skin, the camp in The Zone of Interest is depicted in CGI. And this mode of visual representation 1/3

I recently watched the Oscar Best picture nominated movie "The Zone of Interest" and I'm glad I did. It is unlike any other movie about the Holocaust you will have seen and gives a unique perspective to it and in particular the perpetrators of it.
If you had watched it you would understand director Jonathan Glazer's Oscar award speech perfectly. I sincerely doubt most of those who signed the petition protesting his speech did so, but I wish they would have.

I'm a #Maneskin fan and I expected them to say something about the situation in Palestine, or post a new song about it, or something.
Fellow Italian musician #Ghali certainly had no trouble expressing his support for #Palestine.
I'm disappointed with Maneskin, just like I was disappointed with zaddy (and Internet's boyfriend) #CillainMurphy who has the support of Irish politicians, a large majority of the ROI, most of the UK &NI, Celtic fans ⚽, leftwing and Solidarity🇵🇸 supporters worldwide, Peaky Blinders fans who support a #ceasefire and anyone else with any humanity. He lives in ROI, doesn't live in the US and doesn't have to give a fuck what Hollywood execs think ...and he says what?:
bla-bla...'nuclear energy for better or worse...'bla-bla...'bless the peacemakers' (or whatever the fuck)
#JonathanGlazer (who won for #ZoneOfInterest), on the other hand, knew he had alot to deal with, and yet had the guts to say what needed to be said.

#AnatomyOfAFall, 2023, #DirectedBy #JustineTrier, is really good, a #MurderMystery/#CourtroomDrama that lets the viewer decide which version of events to believe, all while never being just the binary choice it presents itself to be on the surface, or its highly #feminist subtext.
It deserves the awards and praise it's received, and I love the way it shows, and never tells.
And #SandraHüller (also starring in #ZoneOfInterest, which is on my list to watch) is phenomenal.
