Glad I got a bunch of yardwork done yesterday because today is rain mixed with snow WTF! Well it wouldn't be the first time we had snowflakes on the wisteria blossoms and it definitely will melt as soon as it hits but glad I left the lemon and lime trees in the greenhouse. #gardening #zone7

Rhubarb is growing fast, sweet peas about 8 inches high already, re-seeded the scarlet runner beans in the trellis planter they grow on every year for hummingbirds. Spring bulbs blooming, cherry, peach, plumcot and almonds blossoming, star magnolia starting. #gardening #zone7

We haven’t had a good tomato harvest this year, partly due to weather, partly due to placement. But we make do. Mrs. Clown is making a roasted tomato sauce today. Tomatoes, garlic, oregano, and basil from our garden.

Mrs. Clown grew and harvested these; I just took the photo. I do have my first habanero ripening now, and harvested 3 more jalapeños this morning. I’ll harvest pole beans and tomatoes during my lunch break.

First ferment of the season. Ripe jalapeños and garlic from our garden. I’ll use it as the base for a sriracha sauce. Not enough to share, but enough for me for a few months! 3.5% brine. I think I’ll ferment these for 3 months before making the sauce.

Working from home has its benefits come lunchtime. Green beans stir-fried with tomatoes, garlic and tarragon, dressed with hoisin sauce. All from our garden except for the sauce. Beans and tomatoes harvested right before preparing.

Vegan nectarine galette made from our organic nectarines. Yum! I have enough fruit to make another one tomorrow. All from a 3-foot-tall miniature tree.

Today’s harvest. Our 2nd tomato (there will be more every day starting tomorrow), 1st ripe jalapeño, 1.5 lbs of pole beans, 3.5 lbs of nectarines from 1 of 3 miniature trees we planted last year. The tree is only 3’ tall but was just loaded with fruit along the trunk.

It did not get that cold out here in NC, but it did get down to 24 F and I forgot to put my outdoor potted plants in the garage. So my cannas, after 10+ yrs, are probably done.
However, I did cover the plot of fava beans in the backyard. They are supposed to be able to tolerate down to 15 F & have done well so far this winter; some are blooming.
