Also a huge Thank You to @anachrocomputer for bringing all these #Zilog technical manuals and specification sheets along for me (and the other Z80 books too). I'll be cross-checking what is already on the Internet Archive, and the quality of the scans if they are, and will upload better scans if needed.
Now I guess I have no excuse for getting anything wrong with my designs!

We're discussing about this industrial #Zilog #Z80 server machine. Two 8" floppy drives, no HDD. Someone of you know this machine?
Hold or exchange against another rare machine?

I'm in a most excellent mood! A long long time ago, I got a fancy #MiSTer #FPGA. For those unaware, this device emulates everything from old #Zilog #Z80 systems to low end PCs and arcade machine - or rather, it doesn't exactly emulate them - it sort of becomes the old legacy hardware itself, meaning you'll have nearly clock cycle perfect emulation.
Anyhoo, I also got a #MT32pi for it, which is a thing that emulates old #Roland #MIDI hardware that nobody back in the day could afford. Many of the early DOS titles support this, and it's an absolute joy to listen to. There's a whole sad story to the MT32-Pi project, but that's for another day.
Sadly, it never worked in my setup - until today! I had it for years and years but finally I put in the effort - a lot of measuring and some soldering and now it actually works! Delicious music in old #DOS games! I thought the thing was for sure fried, so I couldn't be happier!
Have an excellent weekend everyone! 🙂

Any other #Nascom or #Gemini #vintagecomputing geeks out there? I inherited a rather large collection from my late dad, but so far I've only found a handful of people why are into the #Galaxy computers made by Gemini Microcomputers Ltd., and none in the Fediverse yet. The Geminis were made in #England and mostly featured the #Zilog #z80 although they very briefly ventured into Motorola 68K world before throwing in the towel.

Dear internet,
Does anyone know of a cycle accurate #zilog #ez80 simulator? I'm looking for something that exposes all of the pins in the emulator as well, that is I need to be able to sample the address and data lines from other code in a cycle accurate way to test-drive some peripherals.
I found a core written for the TI calculators, but it seems very tied to that use, and I don't know how accurate it is either. Maybe it is very good, if anyone knows please let me know!

during my travels it appears I stumbled into the zilog webring.
Very relatedly (and perhaps interesting for Moving Forth readers), CamelForth is still A Thing in the modern day and has been GPL'd. https://www.camelforth.com

Our #Kneiser #M100 is packed and ready for exhibition at #RetroGamesCon in the old riding hall #Soltau on Saturday, September 6th. So, if you happen to be there, feel free to come and check it out at our table. I'll definitely try to get a chess program for it so that the incredible 4 MHz #Z80 power can do some serious computing.

Nearly forgot about those micro-controllers that contained a #BASIC interpreter to easily use in single-board computers, like the "BERT" computer from the German #Hobbythek TV show:

Are there more like this #Zilog Z8671 and #Intel 8052 BASIC µC?

Most of the work for the #RC2014 machine based on the #Zilog higher integrated #Z180 CPU is done. The two 90° card connectors are final work for tomorrow afternoon. All parts were available from my private stock, except the 74AHCT139 for the RAM card. The circuits are, as ever, highly quality from pcb4diy.

This morning, I'd like to treat your eyes to a particularly rare specimen of the computer history. A #Yodobashi #Formula1, distributed in Germany by the company Schoppe&Faeser located in Minden. It was used as a "mobile" programming station for the company's early control systems. And btw, it's fully functional right now.

Progress!
I've got a basic #emulator working for my Pat80 #homebrew #zilog #z80 #computer !
This should ease the os development as I can test the changes without having to: remove the #eeprom from the computer (without bending the pins), program it in the #TL866 programmer, place it again on the computer (aligning pins correctly), test, notice it's not working and have no idea why, start debugging with the logic probe on the #address and #data pins, swear in arcane languages... 😅

I'd like to resume my #zilog #z80 based #homebrew #computer project:
https://git.ichibi.eu/penguin86/pato-z80-home-computer/src/branch/c-emulator
When I left it, some years ago, I had no idea what I was doing.
Now, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing AND I don't remember where I left, but apparently I've written a decent enough documentation...
Anyway, apparently I decided the old python #emulator was too janky and started writing a new one in C, language i do not know and never use.
This will be fun 😅
