  1. Having just read some #PDP11 assembler code, and similar in #m68k, #sparc, and #i386, my big take-away was that literally everything in computing would have been better in a world where #Zilog won.

  6. Any other #Nascom or #Gemini #vintagecomputing geeks out there? I inherited a rather large collection from my late dad, but so far I've only found a handful of people why are into the #Galaxy computers made by Gemini Microcomputers Ltd., and none in the Fediverse yet. The Geminis were made in #England and mostly featured the #Zilog #z80 although they very briefly ventured into Motorola 68K world before throwing in the towel.

  8. Our #Kneiser #M100 is packed and ready for exhibition at #RetroGamesCon in the old riding hall #Soltau on Saturday, September 6th. So, if you happen to be there, feel free to come and check it out at our table. I'll definitely try to get a chess program for it so that the incredible 4 MHz #Z80 power can do some serious computing.

  10. As previously mentioned, I managed to get my hands on another #Enterprise64 from the mid 80s. I disassembled it yesterday and made sure it was in working order. Nothing noteworthy, apart from cleaning it up and snipping a couple of mm's of the super thin wire tape for the keyboard, which is notorious for breaking. Also, a 1MB memory expansion was added, which is is insane for a system that was born with 64K. It's now technically an #Enterprise1088 :-)

Developed in the UK, it comes with IS-BASIC, a word processor, has 256 colors, stereo sound, runs CP/M and reads FAT floppy disks. Pretty cool for a 40 year old system, eh?

This is my third Enterprise machine. Currently two are working - my original (S/N 000828) which was gifted to me back when my dad started importing them, and this latest one (S/N 030490). The third one is unfortunately dead at the moment.

  12. I finished reading Michael S. Malone's book "The Intel Trinity" the same day one of its subjects, Intel's Gordon Moore, died at 94. Coincidence.

This book is about Robert Noyce & Gordon Moore, founders of Intel plus early employee & future CEO Andy Grove.

It's partly about the technology and silicon valley, but mostly about the people and I'd recommend it for that.
