#zettlr — Public Fediverse posts

Any piece of Software that lets you share Media with others, be it #messengers like #signal or SMPs like #mastodon or #bluesky, should prompt you to decide, whether you want to keep, change or delete the #metadata of the media file.

The same goes imo for any application, that lets you insert media files into larger documents, like #zettlr, #joplin, #LibreOffice, etc.

All these applications should offer both, a default setting AND a per-file prompt/switch that allows to make this decision.

This is BETTER than stripping metadata silently by default because:

* it creates awareness for the issue with the user base.
* I do not have to remember for each application I work with, how it handles the problem. (I should not have to read through the docs for this!)
* thus I will not have to use third party tools to remove metadata each time i share a pic, when it is actually done by the main application anyway.
* last but not least, there are cases where it is better or even important to preserve metadata.

@pink_doublethink I liked Logseq but as a block-based outliner I wouldn’t consider it a replacement for Obsidian, and it’s in an odd place developmentally right now.

If Obsidian disappeared, I’d consider the following, which all use plaintext files in system folders:

- #Zettlr I’ve tried this and it’s quite good. Open source with a committed, responsive, personable dev. Definitely worth trying.

- #Tangent Notes

- VS Code/Codium with the Foam plugin

ok so it seems like they are transitioning to some new system, while also somehow keeping the old one (?)
#logseq has a lot of open issues, most of them don't seem to get resolved. On Android, I can only use backspace to delete blocks if I use GBoard or Samsung Keboard - no FOSS keyboard :((
And I've read some things about data loss and privacy issues when using the "publish" feature.
I think I'll try something else. Any suggestions? I'm considering #joplin , #appflowy , #siyuan , #beavernotes , #zettlr

I try also orgmode with #orgzlyrevived and I like it - I tried also #emacs but that too hermetic for me … :blob_sweat:

perso j’utilise #zettlr #obsidian #tangent … mais ma question est une appli dédié pour faire des tableaux de bord et uniquement ça. Un peu dans l’esprit #unix == un outil fait une seule chose bien.

Très content d'avoir pu écouter - et rencontrer - @arthurperret parler d'organisation des connaissances, prise de notes et graphs de documents au @CampusDuLibre 2024 aujourd'hui !

@wiredfire je suis plutôt la team #zettlr que j’aime bien ou #tangent que j’ai découvert récemment !! :D

@obsidian is more featured than @zettlr, but I'm using #Zettlr anyway.

#Obsidian is #WYSIWYG, Zettlr is #WYSIWYM. Zettlr isn't elegant when you make the window narrow, it doesn't have inline nested tags (they seem to kinda work in the front matter, though), And it lacks a mobile app.

But #OpenSource has its perks. It's basically immune to #Enshittification (Not that Obsidian has been enshittifying). Hopefully it'll fix some of my complaints, because I think I'm gonna be using it for a while.

Update:

I'll stick to #Pelican and activate the Markdown extension "Wikilinks" (like [[link name]]), and it's pretty much sufficient.

Other more qualified apps would be #Joplin, #Turtl, #Zettlr, #Obsidian.

I'm still not out of the rabbit hole of searching for an #OpenSource #PersonalKnowledgeManagement software. 🐰

I'm gonna give a second try to @zettlr tomorrow! Their docs are *surprisingly* user-friendly and they claim to stick to the pure #CommonMark where probable. It's all the while being nice to researchers with citing, inline usage of #TeXLaTeX, #MermaidJS, and pop-over #footnotes. Provision of the simple #PDF export and #Pandoc customization are welcome, too!

But, to be fair, I may be overexaggerating how good #Zettlr is because of my recent disgust with #VendorLocking. In fact, almost anything that closely follows the common spec and is #FreeSoftware might suffice already. Having something as advanced and closer to the roots is certainly refreshing!

J'aime beaucoup #zettlr pour prendre des #notes en #markdown mais parfois je trouve que ça manque de peaufinage au niveau des micro interaction.

Est-ce qu'il y a des #uxdesigner qui serait motivé de faire des retours pour ce projet ? ( ici : https://github.com/Zettlr/Zettlr/issues )

Soit bénévolement comme certains développeur qui contribuent à ce projet, soit en étant payé ( par qui ça reste à voir ^^ ).

Okay, so between my two contestants for #markdown editor with word processing abilities, I am really baffled at my choices:
- #Obsidian: really intended for smaller notes, has some Notion-like cross-document linking and database aspects
- #Typora: Handles large documents, but only one file per window. Requires theme editing to change the font
- #Zettlr: Handles multiple files well, including linkages between them, but is slow as fuck on 27k word files. Gives you a CSS edit box.

As a daily driver #KDE #Kate (with its variations: KWrite, GhostWriter, …) will most likely continue to be my main #TextEditor of choice. (The #Marksman LSP makes it very close to something like #Zettlr and #ObsidianMD)

In the console though, I’m conflicted. #Vi is ubiquitous, so knowing its basics is basically a survival skill. That said, I **really** like how Helix’ command workflow (borrowed from #Kakoune) is visual selection ↦ action (Vi is action ↦ selection).

Avec un éditeur comme #Zettlr, tu peux aussi gérer tes notes et tout le frusquin en mode #Zettelkasten (tu ne hiérarchises plus, tu ne classes plus, tes idées sont liées enter elles.)

Sinon, tu as aussi #Obsidian qui te permet de faire à peu près le même boulot. Il est un chouia moins bon (pour l'instant) pour les #citations (mais comme #Zettlr, s'interface aussi très bien avec #Zotero), mais meilleur en #graphiques.

Pour produire du travail #académique de qualité avec un super outil qui vous permettra de sortir le bousin dans n'importe quel format, biblio et citations comprises, le top actuel avec peu d'apprentissage, c'est #Zettlr de @zettlr

C'est du #MarkDown, ça gère des notations de #maths, les références, ça exporte proprement via #pandoc, et c'est très #facile en prise en main.

L'idée de base c'est :

Egal, was ich ausprobiere und wie schick die Tools zum #Verwalten von #Notizen sind, am Ende kehre ich immer wieder zurück zu #MarkText, #Zettlr und #Markor. Alle drei sind schlicht, bieten eine gewisse Flexibilität und arbeiten mit #Markdown. Und sie benötigen keine #Cloud oder irgendeinen Account, um irgendwelche Funktionen freizuschalten. 

Can anyone recommend a note taking app that is lightweight, synchronizes with #Nextcloud, but is less buggy than the #NextcloudApp and available through #FDroid?
On my laptop, I use #zettlr and it synchronizes just fine with my server, but the nextcloud app regularly fails to load the new version, been if I can choose between "current version" and "saved (server) version. Very annoying.

Alors @hendrikerz est arrivé avant cette vague et c’est un partage particulier.
C’est un #sociologue allemand avec une grosse tendance aile gauche, mais c’est aussi quelqu’un qui a user de beaucoup de son temps sur le #Développement de #Zettlr, un super #éditeur #MarkDown multitâches, mais quand même vachement bien pour gérer les gros corpus de #texte, comme dans le travail #académique ou #journalistique.
