2019 on the way back from a holiday in Moorea (Tahiti), we decided to plop a rest break at The Varnish, a speakeasy inside Coles (replete with a bathroom urinal with a placard stating "Charles Bukowski pissed here") and a jazz trio including legendary bassist David Piltch. #travelogue #zeruchontour

This was very ok. On my last #zeruchontour outing, I went to San Diego, specifically shelter Island, to see see the super group Beat, perform music mostly from the '80s era of #KingCrimson. It features two members of that era, #AdrianBelew and #TonyLevin, along with #SteveVai and #DannyCarey. I'm there in the middle sandwich between them all in front of the venue stage at Humphreys.

From a recent leg of #zeruchontour , an overnight pit stop in Paso Robles, at an Airbnb with a fire pit, a small vineyard, and a tree swing among other features. Features. A great place to sit with a dram, a book, and a sketch pad. The #drawing itself is of the late great guitarist, #SonnuSharrock.

Hummingbird Records in Ft Bragg is a unique little spot for vinyl, and strange antiques and just odd bits and bobs (like the pictured baby doll parts). I actually picked up a great LP from James Blood Ulmer from here. #zeruchontour

#zeruchontour - a shot from the last stretch on the way down to Glass Beach in Ft. Bragg. It's worth looking up the story of this place. A small but repeatedly enjoyable gem on the Mendocino/Noyo coastline.

#sketchbook May 2024. Even when I'm on another leg of #zeruchontour , I try to keep a drawing practice going as best as I can. In this case a bit of a #drinkanddraw session in an absolutely spectacular boutique Hotel I found in San Luis Obispo, called The Granada. I basically broke out a few old sketchbooks and if I couldn't think of anything new to draw I started painting in very skeletal #doodles from the semi distant past. #beer by #ThereDoesNotExist brewery in SLO. #art #artistsofmastodon

From last week's #zeruchontour excursion to Cleveland, specifically the micro neighborhood of Tremont, which has this funky little izakaya spot called Bar Oni, which includes specials like "Wu-Tang and Whiskey Wednesday" of which I can find 0 things wrong with as a concept. The execution is also good. The weirdest part is that the couple that I ended up seated next to, one of them was originally from Santa Cruz near me. Very small world. #travelogue

#zeruchontour CLE 2023 edition. First time back on 4th Street in #Cleveland in quite some time, and while the Greenhouse Tavern is gone, apparently Cordelia has picked up a lot of the old staffing to great results. Some really good combustibles and imbibables to be had.

A one off concert in tribute to the late, very great #jazz player and composer #WayneShorter, overseen by his friend and colleague #HerbieHancock. The show revolved around reconfigured lineups to cover the different eras and genres of Wayne, which included people like Cindy Blackman, Carlos Santana, Jack DeJohnette, Marcus Miller, Joni Mitchell, Esperanza Spalding, Kamasi Washington, Chris Potter, and more. A wild, varied cross-section of Shorter's influence at the #Hollywood Bowl #zeruchontour

#sketchbook august 2023. In LA, one might be inspired by one of its greatest writers, who also was his own greatest hot mess. #CharlesBukowski wrote of the underbelly: the glints of light inside an entombed arena of distorted appetites and impulses.

The #drawing is not of Bukowski, but of one of his most common tropes, the "lacquered barfly", in this case, some schmuck slumped over a bar.

I arrived in Los Angeles yesterday, which always is a mixed bag. But I had pit stopped in Santa Barbara, home to Warbler Records, where I picked up this 45rpm #vinyl single of "Nutty" from #TheloniousMonk, and when I realized my bungalow in LA has a phonograph, I knew what to do. #vinyloftheday, yesterday.
