  1. Nuclear power seems an attractive option for low carbon emission power generation, but until an environmentally friendly way of dealing with the radioactive waste is found, it just plain isn't...

"Japan reactor restart sparks fresh fears over nuclear waste storage"

  2. Sustainability is one of our 4 core values

For us, it means one thing: the best CO₂ is the one that is never emitted.

Only free, clean solar heat for your bakery, your school canteen, your farm, your community.

The impact is real. For each oven, every year:
60 m² of forest is protected
5 tons of carbon emissions are avoided

    You can start now. 🔆

  3. ‘Zombie’ electricity projects in Britain face the axe to ease quicker grid connections.

The UK’s energy system operator is pulling the plug on hundreds of electricity generation projects to clear a huge backlog that is stopping “shovel-ready” schemes from connecting to the power grid.

The backlog will be cleared with the aim of building a virtually zero-carbon power system by 2030.

  4. @bakuninboys the problem with this argument is that we literally can't replace the world's entire fleet of fossil fuel vehicles with electric vehicles made with zero carbon materials quickly, because we don't have sufficient zero carbon steel smelting plant (and other strategic materials). So when we stop tolerating carbon fuels — which we must — private cars will again be only for the rich. Pretending this isn't so is dangerous.

  5. “The surprising thing is #China is building a portfolio of #ZeroCarbon resources that are designed to not perfectly complement each other, but to work alongside each other to reduce reliance on #FossilFuels,” Harper added.

A baby born today should see the turn of the next century, and they’ll be living with the consequences of the first half of this one.

  8. I'll publish soon, possibly tonight. Please feel free to check my numbers -- I would love to be wrong by at least three orders of magnitude!

  9. I'm working on yet another blog post on the future of the global energy economy, again driven by the matter of #Aviation fuel; and what my current figures are showing is that at current rates of building new energy infrastructure, we are going to have about ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THOUSAND YEARS of relative energy poverty between 2050 and when we've built enough #ZeroCarbon energy infrastructure to replace our current #FossilFuel use.

I'm checking my numbers, but this looks bleak!

  10. Right now, the carbon intensity of electricity generation in the North of Scotland is, or close to, zero.

Elsewhere in the UK, it's up to 333g CO2/kWh

Yet people in the north of Scotland – especially on the islands – pay more for electricity than those in the south.

That is *totally* fucked up, and we need to fundamentally re-imagine our energy "markets" (as if such a thing even actually exists).

  11. Anyone else (in GB) use the NESO app? I haven’t been using it long, but I’ve never seen it over 70% before. #ZeroCarbon

  12. @Ardubal It's telling that somehow this #replyguy chose to comment without watching the video.

You really need to watch the whole video to see that I explained why it's the case that #renewable is more important than #zerocarbon.
