Dans mon travail, nous avons choisi 𝗭𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 pour rédiger notre documentation.
Soyons honnêtes : des générateurs de documentation, il en sort un nouveau toutes les semaines. Mais pour une fois, j'en ai trouvé un que je ne trouve pas « dégueu ».
L'expérience est agréable, le rendu est propre. Je vais suivre son évolution avec intérêt, et si le besoin arrive je pense que je le choisirai. 📃🦊

June has flown by it seems, and that means Junited-2026 has come to an end. This initiative by Robert has got me reading a lot more blogs this month (and I actually missed two weeknotes…) I’d thoroughly enjoyed discovering new bloggers and was in a “consuming mode” for most the month.

Was surprised to see a rather "unusual" warning when running mkdocs build for a project.
Can anybody (who knows the circumstances more deeply) summarize the #mkdocs vs #zensical drama? (the root causes, as seen by a dispassionate third party 😅 ).
On the face of it is seems akin to the #wordpress #wpengine story, a conflict about money and control after an open source project becomes more widely adopted.
Maybe I should have stayed with sphinx 😟

In the last few days, I’ve experimenting with a new SSG as a replacement for my secondary site that’s still running #WordPress—the #CMS I learnt to create my first website.
Once the migration is over, I won’t have to manage a dynamic website any more. Hurray, #StaticSites for the win!

@filipe usei um pouco de Joomla por volta do ano 2000! Depois acabei indo parar no Wordpress por muitos anos, até 2015 eu trabalhava numa firma de treinamentos, "formação" como vocês dizem em Portugal :)
Saindo da firma, passando a fazer projetos mais pessoais, nos últimos anos usei muito o GitHub pages (que é baseado em um Jekyll rodando nos servidores deles), e resolvi reduzir a minha dependência dessa plataforma.
No momento estou estudando #Zensical que é um outro gerador de sites estáticos (herdeiro espiritual do MkDocs+Materials que é popular na comunidade Python).

So... I managed to put together some hacky scripts and get out of my dependency on GitHub Pages, I can now publish my stuff elsewhere... now I want to slowly move repos to #codeberg
I'm still thinking on how to preserve the huge number of images from sketch-a-day without burdening the codeberg repo...
Also, I think I want to move my open teaching materials (material-aulas) from this precarious markdown rendering script to something clever and robust like #zensical
Added this page to the online services section of my documentation website. It's a list of free (also ad-free) and mostly temporary file-sharing websites run by volunteers or small teams (it seems). Let me know if there are others that I should include in my list.

I am now using #Zensical for my #documentation website, using the same code I used for Materials for #mkdocs. I converted the mkdocs.yml to zensical.toml using #chatgpt, and I didn't like the TOML format. It looks unnecessarily complicated. So I will continue using YAML until it becomes necessary.
I've been testing #zensical since I will have to migrate off of #mkdocs and #mkdocsmaterial.
Across 3 sites, I only had to change one line in the yaml files and run `zensical` instead of `mkdocs`. Total potential migration time for 3 sites, 10 minutes.
Why potential and not complete? Pending blog and OpenAPI spec support. Once those are released, I can finish testing and migrate.

Habe gestern diesen Artikel über die Hintergründe bei #Mkdocs gelesen (https://fpgmaas.com/blog/collapse-of-mkdocs/) und jetzt eine Nacht darüber geschlafen. Da wir Mkdocs + Material in der #lernOS Produktionskette verwenden, besteht Handlungsbedarf.
Von den Optionen scheint der Wechsel zu #Zensical naheliegend (https://zensical.org). Feature Parität zu Material ist recht weit, Blogs gibt es noch nicht (auf lernos.org eingesetzt). Werde mal die aktiven Maintainer kontaktieren, damit wir das besprechen.
I've recently migrated a few (small) sites from #MkDocs (no longer maintained) to #Zensical, which went very smoothly.
It also motivated me to write a small Markdown extension for including source code for #Python functions, classes, methods, etc, similar to the `:pyobject:` option in reStructuredText's `literalinclude` directive:

(I'm aware of the snippets extension, which has many more features, but requires adding markers to the source files)
When installing dependencies, formatting code, linting it, type-checking it, and building docs with #Poetry or #PDM, #Black, #Flake8, #Mypy and #MkDocs would previously take from 2min to several more, it now takes less than 15 seconds for the whole thing, thanks to #uv, #Ruff, #ty and #Zensical.
This is for 5 #Python versions (3.10 to 3.15).

Overriding some CSS in a project that uses Sass but doesn't let you hook into it kind of sucks.
Sure, I _can_ hard-code something like "@media screen and (max-width: 76.2344em)" (which originates from an expression like "px2em(719.75px)") into my CSS file, but should I _have_ to?

(Yes, I know Zensical is still at 0.0.something. I don't exactly _expect_ it to make this easy for me at this time. I'm just venting.)

I need to figure out how I can embargo certain content with #Zensical, because I think my business model for surfhosting dot cc once launched is gonna be something like "pay $3 a year to get access to articles 6 months earlier than the genpop and every AI scraper which makes it across the moat"
I don't particularly love the idea of doing that, but I need to feed and house myself and I am absolutely not going to simply donate my research & writing to the techbro theft machines.
it may be as simple as a .htaccess redirect, I don't know.

Built a small project website using #Zensical. It was fun and actually works pretty well already as long as you don't get too fancy.
I'm especially missing blog and metadata features, as well as the ability to create own plugins.
But to set up some documentation for that software project of yours, it's easy and fast.
Oh look, a new player in the static site generator space: The "Material for MkDocs" team is saying goodbye to the unmaintained MkDocs base and are instead writing a new, modern SSG from scratch, called Zensical.

It doesn't have feature parity yet, but already looks quite capable. No blogging or custom plugins yet though, else I might've tried Zensical for the upcoming relaunch of my personal site.
