Testing something today, instead of re-grouping the koans into tiled images, I'm going to put each 4 koans in their own post. P.S. this is my first time using a scheduled post on sharkey. I prepared these koans on the night of the 25th but I didn't want to post and then immediately go to sleep and leave everyone hanging, so I've scheduled this to post right around the time I usually wake up. Zendo for 2026-06-24, medium difficulty.
Zendo is a puzzle game invented by Kory Heath (GNU) where players build structures, or "koans", which are each assigned a true or false nature by a puzzle master, for instance "a koan is true if it contains at least one red piece." If you can state this secret nature, you are ☀️ Enlightened! Feel free to guess in this thread, but mark your guesses with "cw: solve attempt" so others can play too.
A medium difficulty rule typically has a compound condition, such as "it contains a red piece which is not touching the ground."

Zendo for 2026-06-23. Medium difficulty.
Zendo is a rule guessing game invented by Kory Heath (GNU). There is a secret rule like "it has exactly two arrows" which determines which graphs are 🎯 true and which are ❌ false. See if you can figure it out!
As last time, please put cw "SOLVE ATTEMPT" on your solutions. If your solution is incorrect, I will identify the contradiction, and I will draw any new graphs required to illustrate this. You can also draw your own graphs and post them with the text "tell me!" and I will add them to the post.
If a student proposes a solution that I cannot contradict, they are ☀️ enlightened and they win the game. Good luck!

Zendo is a rule-guessing game invented by Kory Heath (GNU). there is a secret condition for these structures that determines if they are 🎯 True or ❌ False, for instance "there must be at least two arrows in the graph."
feel free to guess in replies but please use cw "SOLVE ATTEMPT" so that people who show up late can try to solve on their own.
☁️ if a student guesses incorrectly, the puzzle master will identify the contradiction, for instance "the rule is not that graphs must have two arrows. graph 1 and 2 both follow this rule, but 1 is 🎯 True and 2 is ❌ False."
🌥 if the student's guess is incorrect, but there is no existing graph that can disprove it, then the puzzle master must construct a new graph to demonstrate the contradiction.
☀️ if the puzzle master cannot find a contradiction in the student's logic, the student is Enlightened and they win the game.

these are very satisfying to Zendo with, although it is unfortunate that they're also lightweight and blow away easily. I may have to consider some sort of 3d printed version of these, assuming I can still have the colorblind symbols on 'em.

sewing for Zen needs (2)
I sewed a blue satchel for the stuff i need when going to the zendo. I used a blue nettle i dyed in the washing machine. The satchel is big enough for holding my meditation apparel, a drinking bottle and all the stuff one needs when leaving the house.
The pattern for this was free.
