To whom it concerns: You can prevent the overwriting of your printer-specific .ppd-files by a CUPS-upgrade by changing the "Nickname" inside the .ppd-file. E.g. *NickName: "Zebra ZPL Label Printer" -> *NickName: "MyCustomized Zebra ZPL Label Printer".

The behaviour can be checked with:
sudo touch /usr/share/cups/ppd-updaters/*
sudo apt-get --reinstall install cups
