  1. Ah, it is easy to whine without contributing. "The FEATURE" of open source software.

........and I am guilty of it too :(

  6. Gonna try reading [this book] on #Zathura on my laptop, or until I get an e-book reader (or find where I left my old kindle XD ).

I want to give the e-book experience another trial before I plunk down serious change for a new reader. ;)

  7. Mmmmm, naaaah, I'll just use #zathura or #MuPDF, thanks.

  8. UPDATE: Apparently mupdf lets you change the font size, trivially! Awesome sauce!!! The keybinds are a little different from zathura, but it's totally usable! Thanks to @js for the tip!

    Hey #AskFedi #HiveMind,

I use [Zathura] as my #PDF and #EPUB reader, and it's one of my favorite programs because it's fairly lightweight, and is completely controllable from the keyboard, like less or vi, but a GUI.

My only gripe (and it's a small gripe) is that it doesn't have any provision for adjusting the font size on EPUBs, most likely because it is using the mupdf library to render the EPUB into something it can work with (PS, PDF, or some other vector form, or possibly just calling the library to have it schlep it a bitmap, I don't know how it works under the hood).

Is there a less-style keyboard-oriented epub viewer? I know there are some really good epub viewers out there, but they're not super keyboard friendly like #Zathura is.

Just curious. I'm still happy to continue using Zathura to view my EPUBs. It's a really great little program.

  9. @bobulous Oh I see.
But do you use vim bindings for any other software other than editors?

I use a lot of vim bindings out of my editor. In pdf reader ( #zathura ), browser ( #qutebrowser , #vimium ) music player, etc.
I’m afraid if that will conflict with Kokoune.

And are there Kokoune bindings for popular softwares?

    #linux

  10. I really wish there was a keyboard-driven #PDF viewer like #Zathura, #MuPDF, or #SioYek that let you fill out forms and annotate #PDFs.

    That would be da bomb.

  11. Viewing the PDF version of an html file (sans images) in #Zathura, my favorite keyboard-friendly #PDF reader: 157.5 MiB RAM used
Viewing the same original html file (with images) in #dillo: 40.0 MiB RAM used
    in #NetSurf: 74.6 MiB
    in #GnomeWeb / #Epiphany: 397.0 MiB (wow, kinda lean!!)
    in #Falkon: 541.1 MiB
The same file in #luakit: 623.1 MiB RAM
    in #firefox / #LibreWolf: 1.31 GiB (YEP)

  12. @nobodyinperson been using it as a #zathura alternative, when I'm forced to use Windows. Works great

  13. @adamsdesk

    Dude, legit list!!! Love it!

Kudos for including #Zathura, it's one of my all-time favorite viewers!

  14. The situation with picking default applications for file types on #linux is a real PITA. Why is my #aerc suddenly opening #Chromium for PDF attachments instead of #Zathura configured in my mimeapps, ffs? xdg-mime says the default is Zathura, so wtf is going on?

  15. I've finished configuring #Sioyek PDF reader. It's so powerful. I can finally replace #Zathura, which does not support highlighting and documents with mixed page orientation.

  16. anyone know why zathura with a darker background properly has opacity but if i make the background lighter with the same alpha value it stops being partially see-through? i am perplexed lol #zathura
  17. Using ( and other documents viewer) with ( utility) is a great combo to work through a ton of PDFs one at a time where they are all displayed in a single window. The window stays in the same spot and just advances through any number of PDFs by using a loop in bash like

for x in *.pdf; do zathura -e ((tabbed X ID)) $x; done

  19. @uncomfyhalomacro I've installed #sioyek some time ago, ran it twice or so and returned to #zathura. For my needs, there was nothing that I could not do with Zathura; plus Zathura opens non-PDF files (comic book, djvu, ps) and printing is built-in and does not require manual tweaking in the config file.

  20. For ages I had to deal with the fact that doesn't have a "presentation mode". The solution was to have on the side and use that for presentations.

The other day I came across , a Keynote-like presentation tool so juicy that I want to give presentations just to use it!

    Also great support!

  21. I manage files with #vifm, listen music with #ncmpcpp and watch movies with #mpv; I manage my mail with #mutt (but thinking switching to #mailx) and read documents and books with #zathura; my editor is #vim (and yes, I tried #ed the standard editor, but I felt too hardcore) and my image viewer and wallpaper setter it's #feh. I subdivide my workspace with #tmux inside multiple #xterms that sit on multiple pages of multiple desktops of my #FVWM.
