The consolidation's happening much slower than I predicted, but it's happening.
Zaslav clearly hates the business he's in so I'm not surprised Warner is being consumed rather than being a consumer.
Netflix/Warner, Disney/Hulu, Amazon/MGM, Apple/???, and one more major, probably, will be the main streamers, with a few low-cost niche providers remaining.
Of course, this doesn't include the fully ad-supported streamers.

In 2023, GQ wrote an honest piece about David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery.
Zaslav didn't like it, so had it pulled and re-written. He likely hoped it would go away, forever.
But the internet is forever, and Zaslav's bad behavior is his own fault.

Oops!It's actually breathtaking to go back through the lists and see just how many well-know series got scrubbed from official existence, years of work by tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of people, just to move some numbers around on a balance sheet and avoid paying microscopic streaming residuals. THIS is what he decided to freak out about? This isn't mean or nasty, it's just detailing the bullshit we all know about - he creates cheap, reality content (usually garbage to my eye) & favors that over real, scripted films.
Not a good look for a CEO to be so thin-skinned in public…

I cannot imagine what justifies an invitation for David Zaslav to join the Motion Picture Academy. Maybe wait until he makes one movie first?
I appreciate the group's efforts for film preservation, but the Oscars are dumb, folks. Always have been, always will be.
