  1. The #Zapatistas famously rejected taking state power as a viable path to throw off oppression. They also made the absurd claim that in their confrontation with the militarized neoliberal state it was the state that was in the weaker position. How could this be?

This short, beautifully written essay gives some teeth to their refusal and their claim.

It also made me feel a little less lonely, less crazy.

    "Zapatistas"

    Location:
Historical Mexico, Earth (late C19th & early C20th) and Jupiter penumbra orbit, Earth Solar System (mid C24th)

    Teams:
Emiliano Zapata & Zapatistas (Mexican Revolutionary Force) and Thomas Wade (Halo City "City self-defense force")

    Comparison:

    Zapatistas
Zapatistas armed with conventional weaponry of the time; rifles, explosives, using military and insurgency & counter-insurgency tactics.

    Halo City "City self-defense force"
(General clothing black but with Zapatista style bandoliers holding bullet cartridges.)
Wade: “As I said, the cartridges are basically of ancient design, but the bullets are new. So new, in fact, that they might as well come from the future. The bullet is a superconducting container and the interior is a pure vacuum. A magnetic field suspends a small ball in the middle to prevent it from contacting the bullet’s body. The ball is made of antimatter.”

Auch internationale Zusammenhänge - etwa #Venezuela, #Gaza und das #Weltwirtschaftsforum - werden angesprochen. amerika21.de/2026/02/282853/ez

  4. Ask me anytime about David Ross and his 21 distinctive qualities of net art. I was at that lecture in 1999. Oh, and #EpsteinFiles and all that. Fuck, maybe I am in there? Not. We (being artists who were pro #Zapatistas or #datascience #bigdata artists) were kind of ignored by #hedgefund and #presentationlayer types in the 1990s. We were also right about most things, if you look at what we were writing at the time. Anyway David, come over here to #mastodon and discuss?

⁨Event on restructuring among the Zapatistas and travel report

👉Important: If you don't know much about the Zapatistas yet, we recommend listening to the three episodes of the Ende Gelände podcast on the subject before the event.

As we have a lot to tell but not much time, we cannot give a basic introduction to the history of the Zapatista movement.

✨In addition to reports on Zapatista organisation, we will talk about the context of the entire meeting and discuss some groups that we found particularly exciting. And of course, we also have a few anecdotes to share 🙂⁩

  11. An anti-imperialist movement is building in Mexico,
where the U.S. invasion of Venezuela has been seen as an act of intimidation for all of Latin America.

Across the country, larger-than-usual marches on January 3 and 10 condemned the U.S. attacks on Venezuela.

The marches included some pro-Morena groups
    (the governing party)
as well as students, workers, farmers, and Indigenous groups that are critical of Morena.

Over a hundred organizations met in university union offices in Mexico City and collectively condemned the U.S. intervention in Venezuela,
-- calling for anti-imperialist action around the continent, as “Latin American sovereignty is at stake.”

The #Zapatistas also released a statement, supported by around 170 organizations in Mexico,
in solidarity with the Venezuelan people and denouncing
    “big capital’s wars of conquest.”

In Mexico City, unions, environmentalists, feminists, sexual diversity activists, students, movements for housing rights, and anti-racists chanted
    “Yankees out of Latin America”
    and held banners that read
    “Down with the Donroe Doctrine"

  12. Amelio Robles Ávila, 1913

Context: Amelio Robles Ávila (3 November 1889 – 9 December 1984) was a colonel during the Mexican Revolution. Assigned female at birth, Robles lived openly as a man from age 24 until his death at age 95.

Robles joined the army sometime around 1911, and a few years later started to dress as their gender and demanded to be treated as a man. From 1913 to 1918 Robles fought under Zapatistas as “el coronel Robles”, eventually earning his own commannd. After the death of Emiliano Zapata, Robles and 315 me serving under him joined to fight with the Agua Prieta Revolt.

In the 1930s Robles married Ángela Torres, adopted a daughter, before becoming estranged from both later in life. Dying in 1984.
