Look behind you, a two-headed squirrel!
Meet David and Peapod, an upgrade to my Zak McKracken cosplay. They’re my first posable art doll, made from scratch. This project took me nearly 100 crafting hours.
By now I’ve grown very fond of these guys, even if they look like they’ll murder anyone who gets between them and some peanuts. They’ve made sure that my Zak costume will get some more convention time this year.

A friend of my be gifted me a #Commodore 386SX-16 system with a #PC50 III motherboard. It's been en a long time since I've messed with vintage PCs outside of the #MiSTer FPGA so this was an interesting hands-on project that brought a lot of lessons.
First of all, if you're only going to run #MSDOS on it, it's actually a decent machine. I've always been more of a tools and development guy than a gamer, meaning more Norton Utilities and Borland C and a little less Civilization and Defender of the Crown. I did enjoy shooters like #Wolfenstein3D, dungeon crawlers like #EyeOfTheBeholder and #LucasArts adventures like #MonkeyIsland, #ManiacMansion and #ZakMcKracken.
Anyway, I digress. The machine was heavily yellowed on the outside but near spotless on the inside. Featuring a 1.44MB floppy drive, 4MB RAM and a 40MB Seagate HDD, this thing could potentially run most of the apps I grew up using. Now if I could only expand the storage options a bit.. 😜

If I remember correctly, I was introduced to "Zak McKracken" by a friend at school in 5th or 6th grade. Probably in 1993. By that year, the game was already considered a classic. Today, it's still so much fun to collect, because there are so many different versions across different computing platforms.
The original PC release, which looks pretty much just like the C64 version, didn't even have native support for a mouse! Which one do you guys prefer? - C64, Enhanced PC, Amiga or FM Towns?

That old 5:4 Sony 1280x1024 monitor + black Apple keyboard from different times look nice together.
VGA KVM switches between PowerPC G4 Cube (OSX 10.5 or Mac OS 9) and i3 UMPC running #HaikuOS nightly.
I mostly use Haiku (which isn’t #Retrocomputing!) via Synergy, sharing work Mac input devices.

Gary Winnick doesn't have much of a social media presence, but he was co-designer with @grumpygamer on both #ManiacMansion and #ThimbleweedPark.
