CW: Discussion of mental health
Those of us who keep up with my personal stuff here probably remember that last month I underwent some cognitive testing because I was experiencing some short-term memory loss and other things that alarmed me and I wanted to at least rule out something like dementia. I passed the cognitive exams with flying colors, and an MRI did not detect anything amiss. But last week I’m pretty sure I figured out what’s probably at the root of this. It hit me, like a ton of bricks, actually, that I had pretty much checked out of everything, including things I cared about and brought me joy. #MarchMadness was beginning, for instance, and I was completely clueless. I never even folllowed my #Zags all year. There are other examples of this as well. At least I haven’t lost my interest in reading. I’m clearly going through a very rough patch of what Sarah and I call the D word, something that is always with me but I usually try to keep at bay as much as I can. I’m being proactive; I saw a psychiatrist on Thrusday and we’re exploring some potential med adjustments. It’s going to be a process. I’ll get out of this valley, I always do, but for now I’d appreciate thoughts/prayers/positive mojo. Thanks.

I'd almost forgotten that there was a lewd version of the #ZAGS theme song
Apparently @tmfox had suggested lewd lyrics to me, and I wrote them up and sent them to my composer as a "haha isn't this funny?" and then a recording showed up in my inbox a short while later
Still the best bridge ever 😅
(The lewd theme is part of the ZAGS soundtrack... I think I did a lyric video for them as an unlockable in ZAGS as well?)

I want to make another big game that's like a proper dating sim (like #ZAGS -sized)
I want the love interests to be hot daddies
I wonder if I can swing some of my current project ideas in that direction 🤔

I think the #ZAGS planner feature (which has a bunch of unlockable actions and which also can trigger VN sequences with additional scenes and story) is my favorite VN thing I've ever coded up
The more game-y thing I'm the most proud of coding (and designing!) is the snowballing door puzzles in Over The Moon, with a close second being the RPG engine used in Orcs of Mordick and #ZRWP
But the games I've made that people seem to enjoy the most are the strictly (and straightforwardly) visual novel ones, like YAGS or At First Sight or Charles 2.0, to the point where it seems there's an inverse relationship between how much the programmer in me enjoys a project and how much my players do
Trying to consider what this means for my 2024 #GameDev plans (including my continued desire to pick up an engine other than #RenPy )
...and particularly for a specific project where I've started commissioning art >_>

#ZAGS is no longer available for purchase on itchio, but remains available on Steam and Google Play... it will likely not be coming back to itch, as there's no way to make it even remotely SFW (libido is literally a game stat, and all the CGs are explicit sex)

#AAGS has received an updated demo to make it SFW, and preorders on itch have been closed for now... it will be available for purchase again (as a SFW game) once it's finished (and a patch to make it NSFW again will be available as well)
