I don't think it's unreasonable to ask our mayors & city/municipal councils to cease giving more annual increases to police budgets without making body cams absolutely mandatory, with independent oversight. A bare minimum for public accountability & public transparency purposes.
I know that police won't be abolished in my lifetime. Just made my monthly phone call to shout at #SaanichPolice to remind them I will NEVER FORGET how their #policeUnion boss led team on night my Dad died & refused to put a mask on & refused to leave our home despite first arrival cops & paramedics determining it was a full medical cardiac emergency requiring ZERO COPS. I WILL NEVER STOP REMINDING #SAANICH PD HOW THEY COMPLETELY FUCKED UP & TRAUMATIZED US MORE ON NIGHT MY DAD DIED!!!

Most letter writers to our local newspaper, #TimesColonist are quite conservative & cruel in how they think about marginalized peoples. You rarely see compassion in TC letters published, that Mr. Chris Holiday has shown. I don't know the person but grateful locals like them exist.

I have been appalled at the increasing level of stigmatization and hatred directed toward the unhoused population.I live on Pandora Avenue and frequently walk by individuals suffering most severely from our province’s housing crisis. I’ve witnessed individuals in crisis and using threatening language towards passersby but I have also witnessed verbal harassment of unhoused individuals coming from the balconies of luxury apartments.
Public safety is a two-way street, everyone deserves the right to safety and dignity. A 2023 study by the Ministry of Housing reports that 67% of unhoused individuals have lived in their community for more than five years and 23% for their entire lives.
These are our neighbours, and they deserve respect just as much as us who are housed.

The society said that the decision to close the Pandora Ave centre has been made “with an eye toward financial and other efficiencies”
“For now, we have closed the centre while we actively work to identify a future operating model that fits our mandate, the need, and a sustainable-funding option while continuing our community outreach work in a different way”

Demand that your municipal, provincial & federal governments include #PeopleWithDisabilities as part of #ClimateCrisis caused #NaturalDisasters & #EmergencyEvacuation planning. We are almost always left out of these critically important #EmergencyPlans - we deserve to be considered & included. We are all part of the communities we live in. We don't deserve to be treated like an afterthought.
All levels of governments need to consult with us & learn from us a lot more. All levels of governments need to learn to heed our very valid concerns. We don't need fluffy PR shit. We need to be included in decision making processes. NOW.
