CW: #overengineering ゆめ is too nervous about #elevator #safety #yume-en
I feel there should be a 'immediate stop' button in elevators which replaces the complex human logic of (1) check the indicator (2) press the floor(s) that is feasible for the elevator to stop at ASAP. (3) press the alarm when appropriate. Mayybe use a slightly more aggressive stopping profile as well?
The current manual logic is really hard to do under duress without wasting extra time and would be really useful in emergencies happening within the car (battery fire, heart attacks, violent crimes, etc where not everybody will be calm enough to take their eye off the situation and focus on stopping the elevator). -
@[email protected] Detecting if the sentence structure or word choice is "AI" is useless technology and very harmful when marketed for "plagiarism" detection. Reports and publications are about what you discovered and how you did it, not how you write the report itself. This puts non native speakers or people wishing to use AI for more effective communication at a significant disadvantage despite their research being 100% genuine.
Even when the assignment is about language, I don't care if you wrote a poem by yourself, found something from existing poems, looked up dictionaries or discussed with an AI for a good word, if you can appreciate what is good (which SHOULD be the point of the assignment, not coming up with an "original" idea) and optimize for it what is the problem?

A pseudocode with preconditions that depends minimally on other things is much better than this.. I hate it that every time I open up a docs I need to read 3 screens of information containing a cluster of functions that may or may not do similar things, and skipping any of them often becomes a gotcha. #yume-en
It also gives a clear boundary on what is a bug, what is a feature and what is a user error.

Any restriction on code execution and distribution for security purposes (assuming that is the sole purpose...) on a generic computing device (phones, laptops, MCUs, etc) that can't be turned off by a regular user in 15 minutes using publicly available tooling/documentation is monopolyh, IMHO. #yume-en

Re: google monopoly case
meanwhile 🍏: NOOO it's not monopoly, it's security
, you need a PayUsCommissionEvenIfYouAreNotUsingOurServiceKit
And we will coerce developers to make their apps paid because nobody wants to pay money to do free work.

Wanted to share an #rstats class project I did in undergraduate. Where I analyzed horror movie posters and try to find how color patterns change over time. I wasn't really connected with the R community then.
I remember the professor asked us to analyze from a selected set of #tidytuesday datasets, and I thought just doing curated datasets are boring, so I went through the list and went: "well let's do the poster image URL".
Here's the full report (some weird styles/sections may be because of hard requirements):

Checked back on :twitterfire: and :blobcatgooglyshrug: shouldn't have done it. Godot sending an LGBTQ+ support post constitute as "not focusing on the company but politics?" Come on ... if you really dislike company doing politics (and LGBTQ+ people, not saying you should), go against those lobbying big corporations not a blue bird post and think that somehow becomes your problem:blobfoxlul: #yume-en #twitterexit #libresoftware
