Among many #Bicycling #Monterey projects that most people are unaware of is 1st example under Project #4, BICYCLING #EQUITY (scroll down our Summary of Projects page: https://bikemonterey.org/about/financial-donations/donations-some-ways-your-money-can-help).
Last week another #teen phoned us to make use of that project; today another teen called in same situation. We're glad to help. We salute these teens for not wasting their (or their family's) money on a #TrafficFine. Instead these #youth are "making lemonade out of lemons."
When #LawEnforcement officers deem a #citation appropriate, we appreciate #judges who offer an alternative to a #fine—such as the one we provide (see Project #4).
In case you're wondering: We appreciate #police officers who are into education instead of citation whenever appropriate. And we've done reach out https://bikemonterey.org/constables-of-the-peace-cops-on-bikes.html to #PoliceDepartments over the past 14 years to help more #MontereyCounty, and other, #cops be better prepared to help educate people who #bike.

The study has explored transitions from childhood, into youth and adulthood, and their pathways into and out of criminal offending, and has helped shape policy here in Scotland.

When reading the stories all over the media about the children arrested in Queensland for sexual assault, remember that the Queensland government has recently been heavily criticised for their treatment of young people in custody, and it benefits them greatly to have shocking stories of youth offenders front and centre right now.
I'm not saying it didn't happen - always believe survivors. But also understand that governments and police will always weaponise stories of vulnerability to further their carceral agendas.
