  1. Obligatory quote:

“I reduced the insolent crowd of carriages which cumber our streets, for this luxury of speed destroys its own aim; a pedestrian makes more headway than a hundred conveyances jammed end to end along the twists and turns of the Sacred Way.” ―Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar (1903–1987)

Brussels has much to learn from its late citizen Marguerite.

  2. " Messieurs,

    Jean d'ORMESSON à Marguerite YOURCENAR, Réception suite à l'élection de Marguerite Yourcenar à l'Académie Française, 1981.

  3. @ihatebooks @catfluoride That's one of the greatest books written in French, if you believe me, and #Yourcenar's "L'Œuvre au Noir" (The Abyss) is even more amazing.

Both are very thorough experiments for the writer to really *be* a character from a different era - a Roman emperor, a physician of the #Renaissance.
