  1. Yosemite Falls 3724

Majestic waterfalls cascade down a steep cliff face amidst a rugged mountainous landscape that is Yosemite Valley. Bare deciduous trees lit by a break in the clouds line the tranquil Merced River flowing in the foreground, reflective of the season. The clouds in the sky threaten rain or snow as they pass over Yosemite Point.

  2. Rainbow Mist at Yosemite Falls

I been to Yosemite many times and it never disappoints. I captured this in Mid-February after trying to catch a sunrise at Tunnel View. By the time we made it back to the valley it was only a few minutes until the sun came up behind Half Dome and created a perfect angle to create this beautiful rainbow half way up Yosemite Falls.

  3. Yosemite Falls Digital Watercolor

One of my favorite views in the country when the falls are running in the early spring.
As the snow melts in the higher elevations the water filters into Yosemite Creek high above the valley floor. As it makes it's way to the edge of the valley and makes it's spectacular drop to the valley floor.

  4. Yosemite Falls in Black and White II

This image shows what is known as the beard of Yosemite Falls. The frozen ice that freezes along the sides of the fall overnight. As the day moves on and the day warms up the beard starts melting of and can completely melt by the end of the day.

  5. Yosemite Falls in Black and White

Yosemite Valley and Yosemite Falls is viewed by more than 3 million people every year. Most visit the park during the spring, summer and fall, while relatively few visit during the winter.
It can be cold, snowy, rainy or warm and sunny all depending on what is blowing in off of the Pacific 4 to 8 hours earlier.

  6. Lower Yosemite Falls

Lower Yosemite Falls thunders through rugged granite, its mist rising in a luminous veil that softens the surrounding cliffs and greenery. This photograph captures the raw power and serene beauty of Yosemite’s iconic cascade, offering a timeless statement piece for collectors who appreciate dramatic natural landscapes.

  7. Yosemite's Splendor

Winter in Yosemite can be a real adventure. You can't really ever count on anything except that whatever conditions you have at any given moment most likely won't be what you have later. Storms move in and out of the valley on a regular basis.
This was actually captured during one of those periods where the storms stayed away and blue sky was the story of the weekend.

  8. Winter at Yosemite Falls

As I've written about in many of my images Yosemite National Park is truly one of the most magical places on earth in my humble opinion. Yosemite Falls s the center piece of Yosemite Valley being the tallest waterfall in North America and the 2nd tallest in the world.
This image was captured after a late winter storm passed through the valley.

  9. Waterfall Glow

I've spent many hours at the bottom of Yosemite Falls watching as the water crashes down onto the rocks and boulders at the base of the falls.
This was the first time that I was able to see the rainbow at the very bottom of the lower falls. In the foreground you can see hints of green in the mist fading to yellow giving the appearance of a glow coming out of the mist.

  10. Portrait of Yosemite Falls

One thing you will never see on a busy summer day in Yosemite Valley is the frozen beard that develops over night as the mist from the falls gets blown against the granite and freezes against the side of the cliffs that make up Yosemite Valley.
Another thing that you may never see in the summer is an empty hiking path to the base of Yosemite Falls.

  11. Lower Yosemite Falls Through The Trees.

One of my favorite places to be is sitting below Yosemite Falls. The waterfall is so majestic and powerful and the water runs clean and cool.
This image captures the lower portion of the middle falls and the complete lower falls as shot from the path leading up to the bottom of the waterfall.

  12. Yosemite Falls Infrared

Yosemite Falls is a majestic waterfall that cascades down from Yosemite's high country 2,425 feet to the valley below in three stages. The upper falls drops 1,430 feet with rugged cliffs and steep rocky walls.
The middle falls, not seen here, drops another 675 feet.
Finally the lower falls the final 320 feet to the valley floor.

  14. Yosemite Falls Duotone

Anyone that knows me or has followed my photography knows that I have a special place in my heart for Yosemite.
The centerpiece of the park is Yosemite Valley and the crown jewel of this centerpiece is Yosemite Falls. This image was captured from the swinging bridge during the late winter.

  15. Yosemite Falls In The Summer

My favorite place on the Planet, Yosemite National Park. I've been traveling to Yosemite at least once a year and sometimes 3 or 4. The one thing I hadn't done in a long time is go to Yosemite in the middle of the summer. After I took this trip I vowed that I would never go into the valley during the summer again. 16.

Upper Yosemite Fall near the peak of the 2023 spring snowmelt runoff.

After many years photographing this Valley and seeing photographs others have made there, I often look for subjects other than the iconic waterfalls, domes and peaks. It isn’t that I’m not interested — it is just that I’m not sure the world needs (yet) another straight-on photograph of “that thing” in the same, familiar light. So, despite the fact that the flow over the waterfalls was near historic levels during my late-May visit, I didn’t make many waterfall photographs. But I did make this one.
