  1. In fabulous spring sunshine, a view looking across from High Petergate, York, past Precentor's Court to the West Towers of the city's huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster.
The ancient thoroughfare's name of High and Low Petergate is derived from the saint's name after which the Minster is dedicated, St Peter.
The name 'Petergate' was first recorded as long ago as 1190.

  3. The city of York's majestic Minster as viewed from the walls at the top of Clifford's Tower.
Also included in the foreground, the spire of St Mary's Church which stands in Castlegate.
The former parish church, dates from the 11th century.
Just beyond and slightly to the right is All Saints’ Church, Pavement, York, dating from the 14th century and likewise Grade I listed.
And then there's the backdrop – York Minster or more formally the 'Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York'.
Must admit however, on this occasion I was somewhat put off paying a visit into the Minster itself after the entry fees had risen quite steeply since I last visited.
York Minster is one of the leading landmarks of the city and I understand that it's upkeep is expensive, but if you a visitor, entry now costs £20 for an adult (that's an increase of £7.50 since 2022, when a ticket was £12.50).
