September 15th will be the airport's first frost, with a Low around -1.4°C this morning. That's a little later than its average of September 10th. #yegwx #yeg
(Stony Plain and Blatchford have stayed on the positive side so far) -
People keep saying the f-word.
At Blatchford, the average date of the first frost is September 30th.
But the last time that we had September frost was 2019.
And the last frosts this early in the month were 2018 & 2014.

It's sunny & warm this afternoon, but those clear skies mean that the forecast overnight low has been adjusted down to (edit:) 0°C in Edmonton & area. FYI all #YEGgarden folks.
I just wrapped the potted tomatoes & my neighbour's little chili pepper plants in clear plastic. Which is not the ideal recommended frost blanket, but with the sun shining on it now it should trap enough heat & moisture to last the night.
And I know that early September frosts seem like a shock after the past few mild autumns, but let us flashback to September 2018, and be glad it is only risk of frost in the forecast, not risk of snowstorm. 😱
(Photos from night of Sept 12, 2018 & morning of Sept 13; from my photo roll, we also woke up to snow on the 21st that month and then had another storm for Thanksgiving.)

A crisp sunny day and Issa insisted on a proper walk. (She goes to the groomer tomorrow, but here is a picture of her in her shaggiest fur coat.) #yeg #yegwx #dogsofmastodon #Edmonton #portiesofmastodon #porty
