Spent the weekend setting my spun yarns... Except I don't really have a standard colourway large enough for one shawl so next shawl may just have to lean into its projected hobo (or boho? Lol) realness.

Test-spinning a cable yarn (which is plying two or more plied yarns together), a 2x2 formation for this one. Might go back to the drawing board for the colour distribution of a couple of the singles. Taking a progress photo and realizing belatedly... Having strong colour/aesthetic opinions really mean you keep accidentally matching. The bottom pattern is from my night caftan ie my lap. Spinning update: As 3-ply it really does remind me of tropical punch! Hmm thinking of plying it with my more white-gold/platinum blonde colourway to bring out the yellows... Let me have a think.

Taking a break from knitting because friend is postponing their travel so I'm going to stress my fingers by resuming spinning. This colourway is from World of Wool's zodiac series. I'm still bummed that i misplaced and lost one of my Russian spindles in my house renovation, but using the larger one (that's meant more for plying) is still okay. Talk about accidental consequences of geopolitics: the reason I couldn't get another one is directly because of Putin (i tried to buy Russian spindles/supported spindles of this type from closest to the cultural origin - low-key, modern internet-enabled yarn crafting really is rife with appropriative economic behaviours, and so I tried to avoid the non-russian sellers for this type in particular ... Anyway, Slava Ukraine).

The most challenging thing with #TunisianCrochet for me is how I'm holding the hook as the stitches grow. I need to take active breaks. It means I'm much slower with this compared to #crochet and #knitting but as a personal compromise to weaving, it does look good. Even if i made a booboo with the honeycomb stitch count (the beginning rows), but it's my own pattern so I decided to 'reset' with a couple of Afghan stitch rows. And these are all my own yarn I spun wheeeee
