Certains géants de la #pornographie adaptent leur contenu afin de capter un nouveau public. Mais cette stratégie, appliquée en #RDC, en #CôtedIvoire ou au #Cameroun, n’est pas sans danger pour les acteurs locaux. Plongée à #Yaoundé et à #Douala dans un monde de salaires insignifiants, de conditions de travail indignes et de contrôles sanitaires inexistants.

I owe this comparison to the Africa correspondent of the Süddeutsche Zeitung Peter Seidlitz , who used it in 1978 to illustrate how #colonialism had affected the #art of African states. For the African states that became independent around 1960, reclaiming their art was part of their quest for #cultural sovereignty. This also meant that the integrity of the cultural assets should be restored by returning them to the authentic cultural context. Such demands sometimes seem very present today, but Bénédicte Savoy was able to show that “Africa's fight for its art” (as is the title of her 2021 publication) began over 50 years ago.

Such advances were not welcomed by many #museum people from the former #colonial powers. Instead, it was argued that #European museums had made a significant contribution to the preservation of the objects and thereby acquired a claim to ownership. In addition, the publicly accessible European collections of world cultures are now themselves a common heritage of humanity that should not be “torn apart”.

From a financial point of view, the preservation of things is best guaranteed in them - this was the argument of the opponents of returns back in the 1970s. To date, 40,000 objects from Cameroon are stored in public museums in the Federal Republic of Germany. This is the largest inventory in the world. For comparison: the state collections in Cameroon's capital #Yaoundé only contain around 6,000 objects.
