  1. "That is why I think the first, most basic step in these matters is to start with the moments of real feeling in your life, when your heart is truly moved, and to think about the meaning of those. The things that you feel most deeply, from the very bottom of your heart, will never deceive you in the slightest. And so at all times, in all things, whatever feelings you may have, consider these carefully.

If you do this, then someday, somewhere, a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience will leave a deep impression on you, and you will come to understand something that has a meaning that is not just limited to that one moment. That thought will be an idea that is truly your own.

To put it a slightly more difficult way, you must make a habit of thinking honestly, with your own experience as a foundation, and-Copper, this is very important!—if some one fakes this part, no matter what kind of great-sounding things they think or say, they are all lies in the end."

    — Genzaburō Yoshino: How Do You Live?, p. 48

Moving passage. I think we sometimes forget how much our intuitions and deepest feelings can guide us well if we only listen.

  2. This book was my wife’s Christmas present to me this year. This book is Miyazaki’s favorite book and was a tangential inspiration for his film “The Boy and the Heron.” Enjoying it so far - a nice coming of age story with a philosophical bent.

  3. Just learned that my forthcoming #AngelIsland #YANovel is a "Gold Standard Selection" of the #JuniorLibraryGuild, an organization that curates #KidLit books for libraries.

  4. When I was thirteen, I went to sign out Forever by Judy Blume because I heard it had dirty scenes in it. But the librarian told me that it had scenes with sex in it, and I could sign it out but should be aware. I chickened out from signing it out because I was afraid she’d think I was a pervert. I still haven’t read it. I should get around to that. #JudyBlume #YANovel #YALit #teen #books

  5. Just finished Francesca Padilla’s “What’s Coming to Me.” I hope on everything this book gets its own Netflix series. #books #bipocbooks #bipocauthors #authors #yanovel

  6. #AtaMārie! I bought a new journal yesterday and have scribbled a new idea over many pages. Not sure yet if it's going to be a #screenplay or #GraphicNovel. (Deciding on medium is always one of my top #writing dilemmas, as well as title, character names, and past or present tense) First goal of 2023 - pick one!

    (Also, finish current WIP, it's a #YAnovel, 2 years of work, 100k+, and I haven't landed it yet 😭)
