Der Bildhauer Hubertus von Pilgrim starb am 1. Januar mit 94 Jahren. Seine 22 Bronzeskulpturen entlang des Dachauer Todesmarsches erinnern an 25.000 Häftlinge, die 1945 Richtung Alpen getrieben wurden – ein Abguss steht seit 1992 in Yad Vashem.

As an Israeli, I am utterly perplexed by this. We (well maybe some of us) were raised on a humanist ethos, with at least some generations until the 1980s, possibly longer, embracing it. The peace movement was powerful, and the resistance to the policies of even the socialist party (which has been in charge since 1948 in various forms) in the context of Palestinian rights had a significant impact. I had teachers who were holocaust survivors and some in my own family. No one in their right mind would connect Palestinian resistance with Nazism, as it is weaponized today as an excuse for war crimes, with the exception of lunatics like Begin, and then the backlash was severe. #Netanyahu’s compulsive obsessive personality and personal trauma contributed to the normalization of this narrative and dehumanizing Palestinians was complete. It resonates with both Israelis, who now accept their government’s actions as morally justified, and foreign supporters of Israel, who whitewash their perceptions with the memory of the Holocaust and the false notion of Israel’s right to self-defense, albeit against people who literally cannot fight back. Israel should not be considered any more a legitimate representative of the Jewish people, and honestly, #YadVashem should be shut down, or forced to add a section about the Palestinian Nakba and the current Gaza genocide. We learned nothing.

Marie Elmes was born in Cork on 5 May 1908. She was an Irish aid worker credited with saving the lives of at least 200 Jewish children at various times during the Holocaust, by hiding them in the boot of her car. She was posthumously recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.

Da circa 40 anni mi occupo di ricerche sull'Olocausto. Ho letto innumerevoli testimonianze sul peggior genocidio contro il popolo ebraico ed altre vittime.
Non avrei mai immaginato, nemmeno nei miei peggiori incubi, una realtà in cui avrei letto testimonianze di omicidi di massa compiuti dallo Stato ebraico, che nella loro agghiacciante somiglianza mi ricordano le testimonianze degli archivi di #YadVashem.
La guerra di Gaza, che nelle sue fasi attuali è diventata una strage indiscriminata di innocenti, sta anche portando alla ribalta dell'attenzione pubblica eroi straordinari.
Non mi riferisco alle persone che ogni sera ricevono questo riconoscimento in televisione e che l'ex Primo Ministro #NaftaliBennett ha descritto come “una nazione di leoni”. ⬇️5
