Wenn du ein bisschen was über #Biologie weißt, wirst du wahrscheinlich sagen, dass biologisches Geschlecht durch #Chromosomen bestimmt wird: #XX und du bist #weiblich, #XY und du bist #männlich. Das ist das "chromosomale Geschlecht", aber ist es auch das "biologische Geschlecht"? Tja...
Stellt sich raus, dass es nur EIN #GEN auf dem Y-Chromosom gibt, das wirklich wichtig für das Geschlecht ist. Es heißt SRY-Gen. Während der menschlichen #Embryonalentwicklung aktiviert das #SRY-Protein männlich-assoziierte Gene. Ein SRY-Gen zu haben macht dich "genetisch männlich". Aber ist das das "biologische Geschlecht"?
Manchmal springt dieses SRY-Gen vom Y-Chromosom rüber zum X-Chromosom.
Überraschung! Jetzt hast du ein X mit einem SRY und ein Y ohne SRY. Was bedeutet das?
Ein Y ohne SRY bedeutet: Körperlich bist du weiblich, chromosomal bist du männlich (XY) und genetisch bist du weiblich (kein SRY). Ein X mit SRY bedeutet: Du bist körperlich männlich, chromosomal weiblich (XX) und genetisch männlich (SRY). Aber biologisches Geschlecht ist doch einfach! Es muss eine andere Antwort geben...Geschlechtsbezogene #Gene aktivieren letztendlich #Hormone in bestimmten Körperregionen, und diese Hormone werden von Zellen im ganzen Körper empfangen. Ist das die Wurzel des "biologischen Geschlechts"??
"Hormonell männlich" bedeutet, dass du 'normale' Mengen männlich-assoziierter Hormone produzierst. Aber ein gewisser Prozentsatz von Frauen hat höhere 'männliche' Hormonwerte als manche Männer. Dasselbe gilt für 'weibliche' Hormone. Und...
...wenn du dich entwickelst, produziert dein Körper vielleicht nicht genug Hormone für dein genetisches Geschlecht. Das führt dazu, dass du genetisch männlich oder weiblich sein kannst, chromosomal männlich oder weiblich, hormonell #nichtbinär und körperlich non-binär. Naja, aber die Zellen haben da auch noch ein Wörtchen mitzureden...
Vielleicht sind Zellen die Antwort auf das "biologische Geschlecht"?? Richtig?? #Zellen haben #Rezeptoren, die das Signal von #Geschlechtshormonen "hören". Aber manchmal funktionieren diese Rezeptoren nicht. Wie ein Handy, das auf "Nicht stören" eingestellt ist. Ruf an und klingel, sie werden nicht antworten.
Was bedeutet das alles?
Es bedeutet, dass du genetisch männlich oder weiblich sein kannst, chromosomal männlich oder weiblich, hormonell männlich/weiblich/non-binär, mit Zellen, die den männlichen/weiblichen/non-binären Ruf hören können oder auch nicht - und all das führt zu einem Körper, der männlich/non-binär/weiblich sein kann.
Probier selbst ein paar Kombinationen aus. Merkst du, wie verwirrend das wird? Kannst du genau sagen, was die absolute Ursache des biologischen Geschlechts ist? Ist es fair, Menschen danach zu beurteilen?
Natürlich könntest du versuchen, dich auf Zahlen zu berufen. "Die meisten Menschen sind entweder männlich oder weiblich", sagst du. Aber als Biologieprofessorin sage ich dir...
Der Grund, warum ich meine Studierenden nicht ihre eigenen Chromosomen im Unterricht anschauen lasse, ist, dass sie herausfinden könnten, dass ihr chromosomales Geschlecht nicht mit ihrem körperlichen Geschlecht übereinstimmt. Und das mitten in einer 10-Punkte-Aufgabe zu erfahren, ist EINFACH NICHT DER RICHTIGE ZEITPUNKT.
#BiologischesGeschlecht ist kompliziert. Bevor du jemanden aufgrund von "biologischem Geschlecht" und #Identität diskriminierst, frag dich selbst: Hast du DEINE Chromosomen gesehen? Kennst du die Gene der Menschen, die du liebst? Die Hormone der Menschen, mit denen du arbeitest? Den Zustand ihrer Zellen?
Da die Antwort offensichtlich Nein sein wird, sei bitte freundlich, respektiere das Recht der Menschen, dir zu sagen, wer sie sind, und denk daran, dass du nicht alle Antworten kennst. Nochmal: Biologie ist kompliziert. #Freundlichkeit und #Respekt müssen es nicht sein.
Hinweis: Biologische Klassifikationen existieren. XX, XY, #XXY, #XXYY und alle möglichen #Variationen, weshalb Geschlecht nicht als #binär klassifiziert wird. Du kannst kein binäres Klassifikationssystem haben mit mehr als zwei Konfigurationen, selbst wenn zwei dieser Konfigurationen häufiger vorkommen als andere.
Biologie ist ein #Chaos. Sei nett zu Menschen.

Am 12.09.2024 hatten wir #acapella #chor #konzert und es war großartig. Wir hatten alle viel Spaß.
Die Technik hat (fast) so funktioniert, wie geplant. Eine hängende Audioabnahme in #xy und #ortf, diesmal mit #gehirnschnecke und #fledermaus. Alles hing an einer Kite-Leine, was sich ehrlicherweise schon etwas gewagt anfühlt. Aber 300kg Bruchlast sollten schon reichen.
Jetzt wartet nur noch die Nachbearbeitung mit #ardour auf mich :awesome:

I spent part of Saturday working on my latest plotter project.
We spend a lot of our time making art with pen plotters, and I’ve become really interested in all aspects of the machines – from the varied combinations of inks, pens, and papers that can be used to create unique and individual designs, to the software and hardware of the devices themselves.
The primary two plotters that we use in the studio are an AxiDraw, and a Roland DYX-1100. I’ve also built a BrachioGraph, and a hanging Polargraph. My current project is a CoreXY plotter.
This is a series of modifications on top of a basic plotter kit that I picked up on AliExpress. By default, the plotter comes with a clone Arduino UNO board, and a motor shield. It’s a cheap(ish) kit, that came with some largely pictorial assembly instructions, and far too many parts. You can read a write-up of a similar machine over here.
The majority of these kinds of devices run GRBL, an Arduino firmware that works with Gcode – I already did a lot of hacking with that as part of the Pico-based polagraph project, and I was also looking for a way to improve the speed and configurability as well as adding wireless connectivity. So, instead of sticking with the vanilla build, I decided I was going to upgrade the machine to FluidNC, which is a newer firmware based on ESP32.
I’ve replaced the Arduino attached to one side of the X axis, with a FluidNC board with 2 TMC2209 motor controllers. On top of that, I added some copper heatsinks on the motor drivers. I still need to design and print a new box holder for the controller, to replace the one I removed from the plotter – I don’t actually want that to be floating around on a nest of wires off the side of the machine.
In addition, I’ve added limit switches on the negative (min) sides of the X and Y axes; wired them via the existing cable holes; and, replaced the original coiled plastic cable covers with better quality cable sleeves. I’m pleased with these improvements. There’s technically the option to add another pair of limit switches on the max sides of the axes, but I wasn’t intending to add them as well.
So far, so good; well, I’m happy with things on the hardware side, at least. I made the modifications one by one, and I can see the limit switches tripping when the axes run through the homing process.
The largest issue I’m having is the calibration. I haven’t changed the motors or the dimensions of the machine, but, I’m also not confident that the GRBL build on the Arduino was accurate in the first place (the plotter came with a zip of various bits of code, but I’m not sure that it reflects the specifics of the plotter), so I’m not completely sure that the parameters directly transfer to the FluidNC configuration. This is not straightforward for me – although I’m a coder, I’m not always great at the mathematical side of things, and between spindles, rotations, steps, and power ratios, I’m having “fun”. Although I’ve got most of a working FluidNC config, there’s clearly something off in the settings, as I’m still (!) seeing the machine try to shoot past the limits, and then I have to pull the power.
Once I’ve got this working, I’ve also got a couple more DIY-build plotter projects in mind… if only I have the room for them all…

@evan Programmers are lazy/busy and barely have time to read the README file, let alone do due diligence on a package they’re importing. Plus, if we have connections in common, asking for any kind of reference is IRL highly dependent on personal whims and vendettas (and comes with no guarantees). For #xy it seems there were other actors “vouching” because nefarious actors will “juice” where needed: build their own network of connections to appear genuine to aid their agenda.
