Went out for a ride with no specific destination on ye olde #XtraCycle this afternoon (not too chilly, very sunny, but also windy).
Shortly after I left I happened upon this studio rack in a free pile, so looped back home. Nothing exciting, but hopefully functional.
Went out again, eventually popped by a lumber store and did some #GravelGrinding on the way home with a 10’ (3m) long 4”X4” (9cmX9cm) for an upcoming bike related #DIY project.

Today I took parcels to the post office. When I can I do this with the normal town bike. It's by the door, ready to go. But sometimes I need the cargo bike for larger boxes.
If your parcel was on my bike today then you'll already have received email to tell you that the bike parts that you ordered are on their way to you.

After doing _just enough_ work to get it rideable (and safe enough), I was able to ride my Xtracycle FreeRadical equipped bike to work today. It was my main ride from 2008-2013 and It has been _far too long_ since it's seen regular use since. I still need to swap out the entire drive-train, but then I'll be on it all the time again.

Some of our bike rides over the last couple of days.
1. Collecting wood and other supplies for our continuing kitchen renovation project.
2. Taking some old metal to be recycled by a guy who lives at a nearby traveller camp.
3. Taking the old freezer to the recycling centre.
4. Picking up our grandchild from daycare.

This morning's trip to get things for the kitchen and garden. First I bought a few light fittings and brackets from one shop in the city centre, then I rode out to the big shops around the edge for sheets of plywood and some planters, and finally I bought a loaf of bread from the baker on the way home so that I could eat lunch on my return.
The trip home was made a little more interesting than usual by having a strongish side wind for much of the route. As I rode along a residential street I felt as if I was being pulled towards the houses while at the gaps between them there was a strong wind pushing me away. Luckily we have good quality separated cycle-paths pretty much everywhere so there was no danger at all of being pushed in front of motor traffic.

Today's xtracycle trip to the DIY shop for sheets of wood.
The plan is to replace our existing kitchen cupboard doors, horrible chipboard coated with foil things that came with the house and are now falling apart, with home made solid wood doors which should last for decades.
Two doors are now complete, but I've got to sand them and treat them with some wood stain before they can be fitted.
Doing this will of course have a far smaller environmental impact as well as a far lower cost compared with replacing the entire kitchen, and the result should be more durable.

@Teaceratops Nice! I’ve got an old #Xtracycle #FreeRadical conversion rig (mounted to an all-chrome Mongoose ATB from the 80s) in my shed that has been in disrepair for many years. This is great inspo for me getting it rolling again.

I'd though would have a hard time to decide on one. My favourites so far: #Muli, #Yoonit, #Bogbi, #BrauCycles, #GinkGoBike or one of the #Omnium models. And probably a variant with e-assist.
And if we include no more available bikes: An #XtraCycle with a foldable #sidecar. What a pity that they're no more made.

We're looking to find a new home for our Xtracycle if anybody in the Boulder biking community is looking for a nice cargo bike.
It's a great long-tail cargo bike for hauling kids and groceries, but it doesn't fit our current needs.
Xtracyle seems to have shifted entirely over to making eBikes, so if you're looking for the non-electric cargo bike experience, this is a fantastic option.

Another DIY project completed. We now have an infrared panel for heating in the bathroom.
There's already a heat pump to provide warmth downstairs for our living areas. IR seems like an ideal way to add a little bit of immediate supplementary heat in the bathroom. A bathroom does not need to be heated all the time, it only needs to feel reasonably warm when you're in there.
Holes drilled, electrics rearranged (slightly dodgy connection made by the previous owner found an eradicated) and it's good to go.

Tonight I looked up options to attach a Burley Piccolo trailerbike to a Surly #BigDummy #CargoBike and couldn't find anything better than the guide I published on my blog, so I cleaned it up and republished it. My DIY solution lasted 10 years until the kids outgrew it.
