A developer forked the open source CrossPoint Reader firmware for the Xteink X3 pocket-sized eReader and added support for treating it like a network printer, making it easy to "print" documents to the eReader from a computer or other devices on your network. https://www.hackster.io/news/looking-to-make-your-crosspoint-running-xteink-x3-easier-to-use-turn-it-into-a-printer-6dd15abe2588 #XteinkX3 #Xteink #eReader #CrossPointReader

A few days ago, I got myself an #xteinkX3 as an alternative to scrolling on the phone. The use case is short readings, so I didn't want to read full novels. Enter @rdm 's Short Stories From a Distracted Mind. While I'm not fully done, yet, it's delightfully proper for my use case. Thanks!

I've been playing around with YouTube videos again after a number of years. Why? Well, I just want to talk about shit I'm interested in really.

Podcasting didn't really work, because I don't think single person podcasts are particularly interesting anyway. But talking about gadgets and neat technology in a world full of pervert glasses and AI bullshit is a nice change.

Xteink blocks installation of custom firmware on some eReaders, launches a new Android-powered model

The Xteink X3 and Xteink X4 are cheap tiny eBook readers small enough to fit in your pocket or even affix to the back of your phone, allowing you to take a 3.7 or 4.3 inch E Ink screen everywhere you go and catch up on your reading at any time.

But what’s really made these little devices from Xteink go viral in recent months is the fact that while the default software that runs on them is… […]

Looks like XTEINK wants to lose all their customers 🤡

They're blocking the installation of custom firmwares on devices sold from China/aliexpress (currently). They're claiming they're allowing it on devices from their official store.

What else is this other than greed? They want to upcharge global customers and lock down the device for future enshittification now that it's a little popular.

Xteink X3 is an even smaller eReader (3.7 inch E Ink device for $79)

The Xteink X4 is an unusual eBook reader that generated a lot of buzz last year thanks to its compact design and cheap price tag. For $69 you can pick up an eReader with a 4.3 inch, greyscale E Ink display and magnets that let you stick it to the back of a phone. English language users found the default software to be confusing, but an open source firmware replacement called CrossPoint Reader […]
