Hop, ok, je suis en vacances, mais c'est pas une raison pour zapper les notes hebdomadaires ^^
Alors, on y va.

✍️ I wrote a guide describing how I'm using the $69 Xteink X4 as a serious part of my reading workflow:
I love this ultra-portable notification-free reading environment that syncs with my KOReader devices!
💰 I'm sorry about your wallet!

#Xteink is currently working on blocking firmware flashing on the #X4. What a smart move. Maybe the best option to kill your success.
https://www.ereadersforum.com/threads/xteink-quietly-locks-down-custom-firmware-and-the-explanation-doesnt-hold-up.13142/
The hardware is amazing, but they’ve put almost no effort into making the software even decent. The community really stepped up to fill that gap, and honestly, that’s been a huge part of the company’s success.
Things are still a bit unclear as it sounds like overseas products might not be affected, but either way, this feels like a dumb move.

Xteink blocks installation of custom firmware on some eReaders, launches a new Android-powered model
The Xteink X3 and Xteink X4 are cheap tiny eBook readers small enough to fit in your pocket or even affix to the back of your phone, allowing you to take a 3.7 or 4.3 inch E Ink screen everywhere you go and catch up on your reading at any time.
But what’s really made these little devices from Xteink go viral in recent months is the fact that while the default software that runs on them is… […]

The Xteink X4 is an affordable pocket sized ereader with a community working on improving the firmware. I've had mine for a few weeks now. Here is a guide on setting it up https://hollie.eilloh.net/xteink
It has a magnetic strip on the back that I use to fix it to the back flap of my moleskine notebook. A good combo to carry around to combat that phone addiction.@hollie Looks familiar?

With the #xteink X4 in my hands, I've written up a very quick first impression. It's a cool little device!

@hollie @bookstodon Excellent writeup on the #XTEink! Thank you for this!
I've been debating picking one of these up and sticking it to the back of my phone or something, but I'm just not sure that I want to replace the old #Oasis I've got. 🤔

Stuck in #Xteink delivery bad dream. I don’t normally recommend Amazon, but for your Xteink, definitely order from Amazon, not from the company in China. You’ll have some level of consumer protection that way.
It’s been 6 days since it was Out for Delivery. They never brought it, claimed I needed to confirm my address, I did that twice by phone and once in email, and they went silent (no they didn't, see update below). I’m out over a hundred bucks.

En este día del libro mi recomendación es que os vayáis corriendo a Aliexpress y os hagáis con un Xteink para llevar siempre en el bolsillo 😅

I use Wallabag to save articles to read later, typically on my phone when I find spare moments. It works well, but it's not the most pleasant experience reading long-form on a phone.
After seeing a post from @benbrown showing his xteink e-reader, I picked one up hoping I could somehow use it to read my Wallabag saves. Turns out Calibre can subscribe to the "undread" RSS feed Wallabag exposes, and export them to the device.
Much better, I love this little thing!

A nice little #leatherwork project this morning was a case for my #XTEINK X4 ereader. I didn't take many photos of the build process, but I started with cutting the bottom panel of leather to size in cutting some slots for a strap on the back. Then glued in some stiff white plastic so that the MagSafe ring had something to stick to.
The plastic/leather were then punched for stitching holes and saddle stitched all the way around.

Did I mention the X4 lately? ^^
I recently concluded that Crosspoint could benefit from a few more customizations and more font size options offered in Papyrix. It turns out that Inx might be the firmware to fill the gap. It also displays your current reading time, along with the number of pages and chapters—quite a nice feature!https://github.com/obijuankenobiii/inx
Still in pre-release, so very promising. I just didn't see an option to prevent the display fading effect when the X4 is exposed to U.V. It could be activated by default or not implemented.

Just came across a less-known X4 firmware: cpr-vcodex
It'll definitely attract people who are into the stats hype as it includes detailed reading analytics (and other improvements to Crosspoint).

OK, I got a new toy and get obsessed with it... again. Nonetheless, I'm digging quite a lot to keep the focus on the less obvious hack you can do on your X4.
Today, we’ll explore how practical it is for reading manga or comics before you start throwing stones! -
