  1. Was mache ich da?

Einige Games nutzen Capslock.

  2. I’ve been using #DWM for more than a year without major issues. I like that it’s written in C as I can easily understand it’s code and configure it to my liking.

But due to its multiple limitations with fullscreen apps I’m being forced to move back to #Xmonad.

  3. @vbabka @poni yeah, well...

I'll play with it at some point as well. If it can really be scripted then maybe that's all I need?

But then gnome-shell can also be scripted and it's an absolute pile of dogshit.

(people on #xmonad@libera have since returned back to xmonad from Wayland something but it's very personal - some actually like xmonad's layouts, some are there only for the flexibility and are better served by something else as long as it's flexible enough)
  4. Currently working on getting #Xmonad to play nice on #LinuxMint. I have been able to do this very successfully on Ubuntu but so far having some trouble on Mint. The goal is Xmonad plus other tools (polybar, dunst, blueman, etc...) as the only DE. Very lean.

I've used #Xmonad for years. I used named scratchpads for all things transient.
They actually live on another desktop that is usually hidden. They can be anything, a terminal, htop, a repl, conky, rofi, whatever.
They can be invoked and dismissed with a keystroke and they float above the tiles.

I have yet to find a tiling window manager that is as capable as xmonad. I keep trying to like i3. But it just doesn't measure up.

  6. @Erdrandbewohner Die korrekte Distri ist übrigens #gentoo mit #xmonad als WM. Nur, falls sich jemand fragen sollte... ^^

    Edit typo

  7. @BujakiewiczFranco I have to ask about what alternatives are you considering (assuming you will switch to ).

  8. Any #XMonad folks know why I see a border flash around windows when they lose focus, in spite of noBorders? It happens when switching tabs or changing workspaces... and it's normalBorderColor if that helps. I'm new to XMonad and loving it and this has stumped me this morning.

  9. @ngate
I was on XMonad for years. Excellent Tiling WM.

    Trying Niri on Wayland.

  14. Hey fellow WM users. Is there any font you recommend for panels and status bars? I’m kind of fed up with my current choice (Iosevka) and wanted something that looks nice but is not as narrow as Iosevka

    #Fosstodon #Foss #xmonad #dwm

  15. As a follow-up, while those showcases are silly, I gotta admit, I'm liking #Hyprland as a Wayland compositor. I deeply missed #Xmonad when I made the jump to Wayland (mainly for hidpi/fractional scaling on my Framework 13) and Hyprland lets me do all the things I did with Xmonad, but often easier and definitely prettier.

Also selbst schreiben?

  17. Still funny to see how it triggers people when I say that I use #XMonad and #Vim :D

  18. 📁 [COD] I've built a modal #XMonad config so you don't have to. This way, the #tilingWM can be used like #Vim with different modes and appropriate keybindings:

  28. 📁 [PRO] #XMonad is a #TilingWM written in #Haskell. In my humble opinion, it's one of the best. I've written down why, how I configured my XMonad, and what's planned for the future:

  33. Do you have any experience with or opinion about the #Hyperland compositor? I would like to hear about it, as it sounds awesome on paper and looks great on screenshots. I'm planning to change to a tiling window manager and wonder how it compares to other alternatives. I have tried #Qtile before and liked it. I was also interested in #xmonad, because it can be configured with #Haskell, but I'll rather focus on #Wayland options and I think there are no ports in the horizon.

  34. Anybody have Wayland-compatibile tiling compositor (WM) recommenddations? I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with latest Plasma. I've really not found anything good with Gnome, and the options like #sway and #hyprland require a bunch of time to configure and don't do things like remembering what to do when I plug in different external monitors like KDE does. I appreciate KDE's automation.

  36. Last change on the software side of my dev setup was to start using #PaperWM. It’s so awesome! It’s fast, smooth, has exactly what I need from a window manager, and it’s rock solid. In the past I’ve been using #awesomewm, #xmonad, #i3wm and while I liked them all better than classic floating WMs, only PaperWM feels exactly like what I always needed. And, on a 120hz display its quick animations look fantastic.
