So, machine translator, I have this alphabetical list of contributors in French. Some of them have official English names, some don’t. I need you to go through them, determine which have English names, replace FR with EN where appropriate, and put the new list in alphabetical order. Question for my fellow freelance translators: Do you do post-editing or do you refuse on principle? If you do take post-editing work, do you charge a higher hourly rate (than, say, for revising layout proofs of your own work)?
I've managed to avoid post-editing thus far, but a long-time client just asked me to proof a document they "translated internally." Not quite sure what to do going forward.

Just to give you an idea of the kind of BS this PM is shovelling at me: I'm translating the subtitles for a video. In this case, there will be parallel FR and EN subtitles. At one point, I translated “toute sorte” as “all sorts" and the PM wants me to use a singular idiom "so that people don't think there's a mistake in the French subtitles.”
Please, God, on the off chance you exist, take me now.

If you email me on Wednesday afternoon asking if I can translate a two-page document for EOD Thursday, and I reply that, yes, it's possible, as long as I get the document by noon, have the courtesy to confirm that you will or will not be booking my Thursday afternoon. Turns out, the client sent this MS Word document with with spelling and grammar set to “Hide Spelling Errors/Hide Grammar Errors."

I can’t think of anything else that upsets me about #Mastodon so I might just as well get back to the boosting issue.I have a suggestion of the “what if” sort this time. What if your #home #timeline also showed #toots #favorited by the people you #follow. Wouldn’t it be nice to boost the boosting function this way and give an extra power-up to the content #distribution?

This would be a very useful tool if it worked. However, unless you follow them all, it keeps showing the same profiles, presumably forever. At least that’s my experience. I did it once shortly after I had joined Mastodon, the suggested profiles refreshed .... and have since remained unchanged.

One of the great things about working on a #Mac is the wide range of high-quality system voices available. I've used text-to-speech to edit for well over a decade now, and #Apple seems to update the system voices almost every year.
Pro-tip: I'm convinced that changing the system voice from time to time helps catch more mistakes—especially when using different accents.
