@PCMag With the API that used to be free I used to be able to use an app like Plume to access the #birdsite. I also had some scripts that occasionally posted some useful information. Now the API itself costs money to use and not seeing ads on the official app / on the web is hugely expensive. And the platform is open to people formerly banned.

Because my Xhitter time line is filled by an algorithm trained to boil my piss and my Mastodon is filled by thoughts of bright people, I should stop being surprised that time spent on Mastodon is often rewarded with learning useful stuff, rather than just raising my blood pressure.
