I've been in IT circa for twenty-seven years and one of the most frustrating issue a users (or a sysadmin) can have is to deal with some (rubbish) printer hardware or software. While researching some Interlisp stuff I came across an Italian 1970-1990s science fiction graphic novel series initially called Rank Xerox, after the main character.
The series was soon renamed to Ranxerox over a lawsuit threat by the Rank Xerox company which, for some reason, didn't like to be associated with an amoral, far left leaning, cursing robot made from Xerox copier parts.

Not a lot of these albums seem to have been been catalogued online (let alone archived), sadly. But Discogs does list a Volumen 9, which has absolutely wicked album art and I want it.

Found this album at a swap meet a few months ago and couldn't pass it up. Finally got my turntable fixed and gave it a listen, and hot damn is it a lot less boring that you'd expect from the Xerox name.
If this is the kind of fire that was pumping out of the Xerox de Colombia office sound system while they were messing with Xerox Altos (and copiers, I guess) in 1976, sign me the fuck up.

The video included examples of the difficulty of operating Xerox photocopiers, one of which featuring the struggles and frustrations with a copier of two world-renowned scientists, computational linguist Ron Kaplan and AI founding father Allan Newell.

Только там он желтый и почти невидимый. Я не буду объяснять, как работает лазерный принтер. Барабан, тонер, коротрон, про это написано тысячу раз. Сегодня речь про то, что именно принтер дописывает поверх вашего документа и о чем вам не сказали. А по дороге, в статье, между главами, спрятан шифр. Его я расшифровывать не буду. Кто первым выложит ответ в комментарии, тот молодец.

@stroughtonsmith Apparently we are. The desktop metaphor has not changed much since the #Xerox Star user interface. There are of course branches that have evolved out of it: VisionOS, Android, iPadOS. But the primary method of interaction has remained consistent for nearly 60 years. So imagine in 2050, we will still be using pretty much the same desktop paradigm.

The 1986 article "Xerox proves it moves ideas into the market" discussed the inability of Xerox to turn innovations into products. It also explained why the company was better positioned than other vendors for delivering low-cost AI solutions and how it was improving at bringing its innovations to the market:
Brian Boyle, president of Novon Research in San Francisco, says that Xerox used to practically give their technology away by putting it into the public domain, but he now contends that the company appears to be redirecting its thinking, citing the company's OEM strategy with the 1185 and 1186 as an example.
